I wouldn't imagine the chances would be any greater from navigation than from using a cell phone, and I think they recently said the whole cell phone = cancer thing was hype.

lol I love the world... I will tell you a secret

EVERYTHING=CANCER... if you live, you are most likly going to get one form of cancer or another sometime in your life. Whether you talk on a cell phone, have navi in your car, smoke 5 packs a day (ok the chances are a little better then ) or you eat well and excercise 5 times a week.

That's just life...

Well since the navigational system, like any GPS system, RECIEVES not transmits signals (which are constantly being beamed down to earth) from satellites. So even without the GPS reciever in the car you are constantly being bombarded by those signals, which by way if your looking for things to blame for cancer you can add sat phones, cell phones, sat. tv (directv/dish) radio, tv, etc.

So in answer to your question, does your navigational system cause cancer NO. Would it at least let you use the satellite signals (which would be the source of any potential cancer). So get a Nav system, handheld gps (www.geocaching.com), talk on your cell phone, listen to the radio, and watch your tv in peace. In end we're all going to die anyway.

Btw: XM Radio and gps systems both use the same anntena/receiver so there's one more thing to worry about.

Did you know that the single greatest cause of cancer in our society comes from our food. Maybe we should all stop eating!!

Well the Navi in your car is passive. It doesn't transmit anything. The signals it uses are beamed down to earth everywhere. Your navi system will read them and triangulate your location based on the values. You are exposed to them if you "use" Navi or not. If they cause cancer - we're all in trouble.

Conclusion: errm no Navi doesn't cause cancer.

Your chances of developing cancer are higher every day that you live. Does that make suicide the cure?

I'm sure you develop significantly less exposure to cancer-causing elements in your car than out of it.

At least the Navi's female voice won't criticize you when you take a wrong turn.

If navi causes cancer, I'm going to be dead in 30 seconds at my new job. There's a reason for the smiley in the ramblings section.

Exactly. It's like saying the FM radio in you car will cause cancer b/c it receives FM transmissions.

Uh... actually... i think they are seperate.
Someone correct me if i'm wrong but the XM antenna sits on the roof while the Nav antenna is near the rear speaker panels.

Actually in the case of our TSX yes, they are seperate. But I was refering to the technology in general. I have a handheld gps and a XM radio not built-in and I swap the antenna depending on which I am using at the time. Or at least I did before I got the TSX with Navi.

On the TSX the Navi antenna I think is incorporated into the rear window. The XM antenna is that shark fin looking thing on the rear roof.. They may both be integrated into one, I'm not sure since I don't have built-in XM.

speaking of the nav. Would a palm pilot pen work on the touch screen? I'm just curious. This would eliminate the finger prints on the screen. Has anyone tried this method?

That should work. I'd just be nervous i'd hit the screen with the pen too hard and leave a mark lol.
