I left my rear reading light on overnight a couple of months ago and lo and behold the car was dead. I attempted to first jump start my car in the tried and true methed I used for my previous cars (attach the positive to my car, then the positive on the car with power, attach to a grounded spot on my car, then a ground spot on the other car). At the moment of the final connection, the security alarm in my car immediately went off. Putting the key into the ignition and turning the car on does not turn the alarm (it just prolongs your neighbor's wake-up alarm). After opening the manual, it recommends using the ground strap located on the opposite side of your battery. After making the "correct" connections, my car will not start. Has anyone been able to jump start their car "correctly"? To end my story, the only way I was able to start my car and go to work was to follow the first method. Once the car alarm goes off, insert your key into the driver-side door and turn as to unlock. This disables the alarm system.

I attampted to jump start my TSX in accordance with the owners manual, and like you said, as soon as I made the last contact, the horn went off. I called the Acura roadside assistance 1-800 number and they said that this was a safety and security feature. If this is a feature (not an inadvertant design flaw), why isn't it mentioned in the owners manual under the jump start procedure!!!!
In addition, he said that Acura no longer recommends jump starting their vehicles!!!! WTF! What is the other alternative?!?!?
Can someone please tell me the straight scoop on this!!!!

Now that I have successfully jump started my car (and turned off the alarm) I now get the "check engine" light. I checked my gas cap and it isn't loose. The car seems to run fine and after running it for about 20 minutes, I turned the car off, and restarted with no hesitation - but the "check engine" light is still on.
Does anyone have any ideas why jump starting the car could cause the check engine light to come on and what I shoud do about it?
Thanks!

After AAA successfully jump started my car, everything was fine except my "check engine" light was on. I looked in the owners manual and it said to make sure the gas cap was on securely, which I did. I called my Acura dealership service department and quickly got someone on the phone. He said that the emmisissions control computer just needed to reset itself and that it would do it in about an hour's worth of driving. He told me that if it didn't reset itself in two days, to bring it in and he could reset it in about twenty minutes.
Well, he was right! About an hour of driving, the light went out and now everything is back to normal! Acura of Mobile (Alabama) rocks!
