Issues with Side Bolsters and 6MT?

In my single test drive of the 6MT TSX (there aren't enough around for me to test drive more than once, nevertheless buy!), it occured to me that the substantial (and otherwise very comfy) side bolsters seemed to interfere with my arm actually accessing the stick shift. The top of my arm felt restricted by the bolster as I rested my hand on the stick.

I almost want a "channel" cut out of the bolster to allow my arm to easily sit comfortably on the stick.

Anyone else share this experience?

Jon

Really? I've never noticed that at all... How tall are you?

Dan,

I'm 5'6" @155lbs. How about you? Now that you mention height, I can see how being taller would possibly help avoid this feeling. (?)

Not just overall height

I think torso length is also an issue. If you're all legs, then I'd imagine that your upper arm is going to hit the meaty part of the bolster.

On the other hand, I remember huge drivers saying on this board some time ago that they couldn't fit in the TSX seats.

You could always junk the stock seats and go aftermarket.

I was one of those people....

The seats are fine but I wish I had a little more headroom and that the steering wheel would telesope a little more.

you are 6 feet 9 inches?

The side bolsters are not a problem for me at all. In fact Im having trouble even understanding how they could be a problem. Unless your torso so short that your shoulder isnt above the bolster?

FYI = 69" = 5' 9"
Remember the basic English measuring system?

re: how it could be a problem. It's not like I cannot get my arm to the shifter, it's more like the middle of the right bolster rubbed uncomfortably against the underside of my upper arm when shifting.

you can raise your seat, that might help if it doesn't mess up your reach to the pdeals

Not as thick as my.... oh never mind.

Well, if Acura would make more than 2 6MTs per month, maybe I could score myself another test drive and figure out what the issue is in more detail.

Short for his weight. I'm 5' 10" and weigh the same and I should have thought of listing my height as 70".

Finally got into another 6MT (dealer's car) and sat in it for a 1/2 hour waiting for the sales guy to help me. No, I couldn't drive it w/o him due to "insurance reasons."

What I noticed is that the bolsters did not affect my reach for the stick shift this time... but the bolsters are very thick and make sitting in the car feel "tight." Kind of surprising since I'm only 5'6". I can only imagine what my 6'3" brother will think if I end up with the TSX!

The TSX is the right size car for me, with just about the right features, and at the right price.

I guess what's stopping me from pulling the trigger is:

1. My sales guy blew me off big time. He had a sale and it went longer than he expected.
2. Seat uncertainty. Maybe the tight feeling will go away when actually driving it.
3. 05 model uncertainty. I would love built-in BlueTooth, heated side mirrors, and a factory installed rattle-free enviornment.
