Injen Intake+MPG

hey guys i just put in my injen intake. its in the short ram mode right now. i've noticed that my MPG has dropped dramatically. when i took a short drive and back i noticed it said 11.3MPG

is there a reason to this? is the intake suppose to lower the MPG by a large amount?

I am no expert on this but I heard having an intake is supposed to "increase" your MPG. It removes restriction of air flow to the engine, which means it takes lesser force to move your car.

Maybe it's your leading foot while testing your intake that did it. But with that much drop, i'd be concerned..

I have heard that you should reset your ecu when you swap intake so that the computer can recalibrate and adjust for the new flow. I heard that the proper procedure is to:
-Reset the ecu or disconnect battery (make sure you have radio/navi codes)
-let the engine get cold
-Start engine and let engine warm until normal operating temp (don't rev).
-Then drive normally.

This might help it is a guess. This is only what I have heard and so I don't know how it would hurt.

Good Luck...

there's no such thing as resetting ecu these days. what mpg were you use to getting? are you stepping on your gas pedal harder?

I had the same issue when I had my Injen in Short Ram form...my car ran really rich and my mileage plummeted. I ended up selling it a few months ago...I do miss the sound though.

haha yes i was definitely stepping on the gas pedal harder just to hear the sound and what not. but i ddin't think it would drop my MPG that low. is that unusual for the short ram intake?

anyways i'm going to change it to the cold air. hopefully that will change things up

I had the same problem. I don't know if I'm wrong or right here, but I still think it is because the Injen and other intakes were designed for previous years. The 06+ have bigger throttle bodies and maybe needs a slightly bigger intake tube and fittment. You might want to take a long trip at 80mph so that your ecu resets. After I took out my intake, I still had bad milage until I took a trip to SF and my mpgs were way back up (32+). Local, I average 21-22 with stock.

When I had my intake, I got about 16-17 mpg with Injen CAI.

The ECU should adjust on its own to the new intake. In the mean time your mileage will probably suffer. Plus you're probably flooring it a lot more often. Lastly, less restrictive intake means more air, which means more fuel (at the same air/fuel ratio) which means lower fuel economy.

I have a CAI and I get 25 mpg if I drive on highways. If locals, I'll get around 20-21 mpg.

did u over-step the gas pedal when u were trying to hear the sound?!?!

because i did that once, step it hard and over... my mileage resets on its own... @@

and had to drive it a few days for the mpg to get back.
