Wow that sucks... gotta watch that speed! Speed doesn't necessarily kill, but the fines can.

You were going 91 in a 55. If you're looking for sympathy, don't get your hopes up.

You gotta pay to play...

brother, I'm sure that the area lawyers will be sending you a letter in the mail over the next week or so. What ever you do you need a lawyer on this one. Maybe they can prevent your license from being suspended. If you don't get any letters then check the yellow pages for lawyers in that area. I say this from personal experience.

^^ I can kind of agree, but 91 in 55? Man, you must have known you were way over the limit. I think the law will leave you alone if you keep it under 70 in 55 zone as long as you're not swerving in and out. Gotta exercise a little caution.

I had two license suspensions, 6 speeding tickets, 4 illegal turn signals, one tints, one to low, one to loud. That was in ONE year when I was 16, now I'm 22 and have been clean for 6 years. I paid to play, I paid super high risk insurance (over 4K a year), for three years, Farmers put me on their "high risk" branch which is some crazy thing. Then for another 2 years I was Farmers regular high risk at over 2K a year, and now finally I am a regular driver. I had thousands in fines, and got my plates ran for leaving my driveway. Like everyone else said, you pay to play! Do the crime, do the time, I was an idiot and so are you so grow up and slow down. 90+ mph is for the track not the street. No sympathy on this end of the stick.

70 is not noticeable, 80+ is noticeable.

You must have a bad attention span of some sort.

word of advice, hire a lawyer.. a damn good one that knows what he's doing... price shouldn't be an object because insurance will kick your ass in the long run anyway so don't skimp on the lawyer fees.. but make sure he's good.. my friend's fighting his ticket right now too.. 90 on the bqe in a 55... in a navigator.. and also changing lanes without signaling and wreckless driving of course... so yeah thats like well over 11 points

Some roads are particularly easy to speed upon, regardless of the speed limit. Imagine a very wide, smooth, and relatively flat freeway with minimal traffic... going 80mph is easy to do, perhaps even 85mph if you have the radio on. It's good to either get in the habit of using the cruise control on roads like that, or watch out for cops.

Since I rarely get tickets I just go to court myself and the judges usually give me the choice to either fight the ticket or plea no contest, pay about half and no points or school. This has worked three times. Getting a lawyer works too but you end up paying lawyer fees and the fees of your tickets in full and you get the same result but end up paying more. I dont know how it work in NYC but in miami its like that.

You have NO choice but to get a lawyer ...don't even think about attempting to fight the charges without one!!!!!!!!!

If you can't help but speed then you need a radar detector. Of course just don't speed, but yes sometimes that can be hard ...the radar detector will help put you in check - just don't look at the detector as an excuse TO speed because you have one.

Wow. 91? Dang... I mean... in the tsx, although it's pretty smooth. You will still notice if yuo're going 80+. Especially if your car is completely stock. Need to watch the speed. 91MPH at impact will have you fataly injured no matter how safe your car is. Plus slamming the brakes at that speed does nothing to slow you down in the required time. BE CAREFUL!

I would definately hire an attorney though. Those seem like some pretty serious charges. 20+ in Ga is reckless driving. Much more over and you are very lucky you only got a ticket. Here they can just arrest you.

What's with all of the "OMG, I can't believe you were going 90" crap by the folks here? Either we have a bunch of Saints on this board or other cities must drive really slow. Here in Chicago 90 isn't something to get all excited about. The cops don't start paying attention to you until you are going over 80 on most highways.

You should lawyer up for sure. We don't have a points system here, but it sounds like you're in some hot water. It might cost you a bit more up front, but if it means being able to drive it's worth it. If the law is going to hit you that hard, you might want to take it down a notch next time though.

damn that sucks but it seems that it sucks more just living in new york. the first 2 years i had my license(16 to 18) i probably got 10 traffic violations and my license was never suspended or even had the possibility of being suspended and we dont have anything like points or whatever you are talking about. and thats weird that lawyers send you letters when you get tickets? does new york sell your information to law firms or how/why do they do that? id hate to get spam snail mail like that.
good luck with your ticket and hopefully you wont have a suspended license

Most car enthusiasts grew up. We no longer condone street racing, reckless driving, etc. I remember when I first got into the scene, people would be bragging about their street racing, and it would be received positively by everyone.

Now, everyone saves it for the track. Some of us may have been in high-speed accidents, or knew someone who was killed by a street racer.

And to the OP, there are alot of things to driving. Among keeping the area around your car clear, checking your mirrors, etc...you should know how fast you're going. Your handling and the options available to you change according to your speed. At slow speeds, you might be able to swerve or brake. At high speed, I'm not sure you'd want to swerve too quickly...

At your age, I know how easy it was to speed. But now I don't even have to look at my speedometer to know if I'm speeding or not. I don't speed anymore unless I'm purposely trying to speed...otherwise I have a tendency of just cruising and enjoying the ride

And yes, a traffic lawyer is recommended. Just remember, be a (hu)man and own up to the consequences of your action. You're the operator of a machine that can kill people ;-P

Get a Valentine One radar detector! You still shouldn't drive that fast but at least the V1 will help you avoid getting a ticket. I personally enjoy driving fast but at least I have a defense against them damn PoPo's!

Or, he could just check that funny little thing called a speedometer. It usually tells you how fast you're going.

Even better, he could just learn to drive responsibly.

I sure wish people in my area would learn to use their blinkers when changing lanes. I'd say at least 80% don't. Drives me crazy.

Anyway, good luck with your case.

Depends on what type of cop it was.

You must have pissed this guy off.

First of all the insurance. Do not show up with an insurace card. Obtain a letter from your insurance company stating that your auto that you were pulled over in was insured on the day you got the ticket.

As far as the Lawyer...If it was a New York State Police Officer (Trooper) then don't even bother. Their testimony is extremely detailed & Flawless. They are trained to go up against lawyers.
You have a better chance plea bargining. The insurance ticket should be dismissed.

Against a Trooper I recommend you don't plea not guilty. Because if you go in front of a judge with a not guilty plea & you loose, you paid the lawyer for nothing (usually $300-$700) & you get the FULL penalty thats points + fee.

If you feel lucky & want to roll the dice then go for it. If you get a lawyer they will probably be better plea bargining for you.
