Hope Tsx maintenance won't be pricey
Has anyone made it to the 20,000 mile mark yet in their Tsx?
Just wondered how much a typical 20,000 mile maintenance will be. Hope it's around the price of Honda maintenance, which was between $200-350, well that's how much my maintenance was on the old Accord at 15K, 30K, 45K, and 60K.

Does anyone else believe that these service packages at specific mileage intervals are a waste of money?
For the last four new cars I've owned, I've stayed on top of changing the oil and replaced tires as needed. But the thought of forking over $100-$400 every 10-20k miles seems kinda unnecessary.
I do typically buy one of the service packages once between 80k and 100k.

I think the first oil change is recommended for 10,000 miles and the first oil filter change isn't scheduled until 20,000 miles. Otherwise, as I remember (I don't have the shop manual in front of me) it's just easy stuff like air filters until 110,000 miles when you change the spark plugs. There's no timing belt to change, it's a timing chain.
I buy Mobil-1 synthetic for $28/case (of 6 quarts, and I think the TSX capacity is only 4 or 5), the Honda-Acura oil filters are about $6 and the oil drain crush washer is about $0.20. It should take less time to change the oil than to drive to the dealer.
As long as you keep receipts, I don't know why you'd ever need to visit a "stealer" to keep the warranty in force. (And from posts here it looks like they often try to weasel out of covering the components that fail, like the tranny and clutch, anyway.)

i called my local dealer and said that a 20K service will cost about $150, not bad. i think in the long run i will end up spending less hopefully on maintenance expenses in the Tsx in 4-5 yrs. than I did on 4 yrs in the Accord. At honda they recommend you to change ur oil every 3,000 miles and then do recommended services at 7.5K, 15K, 23.5K, 30K, 37.5K, 50K, etc. While if i read the maintenance log book on the Tsx, you have to change your oil less at 5K or 10K depending on how much you drive. so having an Acura maybe it won't be that pricey at least i hope not in the long run compared to owning a Honda.

Back when I had my '98 Integra, I only got the 60k mile service done. I did however change my own spark plugs at 30k miles which was a piece of cake. Nothing else. And my car drove perfectly fine. No problems. I intend to do the same with my TSX.
The most important thing is to change your oil and filter at regular intervals. According to the service manual, it's at every 10k mile intervals.
Oh yeah, when I did get the 60k mile service, the mechanic commented that the inside of my engine is one of the cleanest engines he had ever seen. I attribute this to Mobil 1 synthetic and the religious use of Chevron gas

Honda recommends 20,000 mile filter changes. I suspect that the extended interval has something to do with the company being environmentally friendly, like the 5W20 oil they were recommending at one point ... so I plan to change my own oil and filter every 5,000 miles since Honda isn't going to help me if the engine starts pumping oil at 120,000 miles.
I use 5W30 synthetic in my wife's Oddity for the same reason.
