Fog light issues anyone?
Fog light issues anyone?
Yo... first time I've posted.
Just bought an '08 two weeks ago and already the passenger side fog light has cracked (probably by a rock or pebble or something while driving). My first instinct is well it's just tough luck... certainly not covered on the warrenty. I thought since it was only the lens it should be a rather simple fix.
I was pretty pi$$ed to find out that they don't just sell the lenses and you have to buy the whole fixture... then tack on about 2 hours of labor to replace it. So I"m looking at about $350 to fix a broken lense.
I know the fog lights are new since the '06 models.... has anyone had issues with these things repeatedly breaking or cracking? Just bracing myself. After hearing the bill I'm really wondering if in the long run I shouldn't just put dummys in there should it happen again in short order. Just venting I guess... any experience with the fog lights being a problem... or better yet if anyone who's had theirs for a long time and never had any issues would be great.

It's a very, very common problem for 06+. Personally I haven't had a problem yet...but there are others who have had it cracked several times. Most people here use a protective film from lamin-x or rockblocker (one of our vendors) to protect their fog lights. I probably should do the same.
There are a few people who have had the dealership replace it (out of goodwill). You only bought it 2 weeks ago...call them and see if they'd be willing to do it for you this time. Be sure to put on some protection after it's fixed.
I think the problem is that the foglights are glass (not plastic)...which makes them easy to break. Since they're downlow, they get alot of attention from the stray pebbles....

This is the sponsored sale section: https://acurazine.com/forums/sponsored-sales-group-buys-10/
Rockblocker (our vendor) doesn't seem to have a sale at the moment...but they tend to have it quite often: https://acurazine.com/forums/members/rockblocker-52703/
Here's a link to their site: http://rockblocker.com/
You can choose various things. You can smoke the lense, make it yellow (ie: make your foglights more yellowish for fog), or clear. Some people get yellow bulbs with yellow lense, while others get bluish lights to match the HID's and the clear film.
They also have kits so you can do the same thing to your headlights, taillights, or the turn signal on your side view mirrors.
And yes, you can install it yourself. They have the templates on file...you just buy the kit for your car (such as clear headlight film w/ yellow foglight film), and follow the instructions to apply it. It's pretty cheap (as opposed to buying the lense again), so if you mess up, just learn from the mistake, get another one, and try again.
I think it's like tinting your windows...some water, possibly a squeegee, and a bit of TLC...

I don't own an '06, but the housing in the '04-'05 is held by 2 screws... I'd imagine it'd be a very simple DIY. I've changed my fog housings and bulbs on several occassions. Can anyone confirm how the '06s mount?
