Driving in the snow
Driving in the snow
Hey guys,
I'm looking at buying an '05 TSX, but I live in New England, and do a lot of snowboarding (hence driving in the snow). Can you share your snow driving experiences with me? I'm looking at the TSX and the Saab 9-3...My family has always had saabs so I know how they perform in the snow, but nobody I know has an acura. honest (and unbiased as you can be) input is very helpful as this is my first new car!
Thanks.

i've driven the tsx to killington, sugarbush, stratton, and okemo many times and vs my bro's wrx, the subie wins. (have you considered the rebadged wrx...aka AWD saab?)
on the unplowed backroads around VT, the vsa will light up like no tomorrow on the stock tires. get snow tires, drive within limits, and you should be fine.
you've just reminded me to get my board tuned...

Very Active Skiier, (as my friends say I ski like a snowboarder, rails jumps ect, as well as back country and bowls) so ive taken the TSX to Hunter 3 times, Killington once, and Stowe... I have All Seasons which arn't bad in the snow, there not great either, but if you get a good pair of snow tires and toss em on there, you shouldnt have any problems...
My bro goes snowboarding all the time and he says that his WRX is awesome in the snow. So I agree with mg7726 that you may want to consider the AWD Saab or even the Legacy GT. It'll be fun to drive and it has some luxury to it.
Either way, I think you would be fine with a TSX. I mean, I drove up to Killington, Sunday River with my FWD Acura Integra Coupe with old all season tires and I was fine. Just had to take it slow.

I have Dunlop Winter Sport M3 tires on and have gone into the Rockys this winter multiple times during heavy snow and I have driven through all the snow down in the front range (Denver-Boulder) of Colorado with no problems. Snow tires make all the difference in the world. My VSA hardly ever goes off. Of course, nothing beats snow tires + AWD.
Peace

the TSX stock tires aren't so great in the snow... they are much worse than some new all seasons that i put on my mom's Oldsmobile Alero. I highly suggest changing the stock tires.. other than that, the car is the bestest!!!!!

Thanks guys. I looked at the WRX, but didn't like it. Too powerful for my lead foot, and it didn't have folding rear seats (which is important to me). I also like a manual tranny, so a lot of the SUV's and AWD vehichles were out at step 1, and the others I REALLY didn't like. I figured i can just calm my driving down on winter trips if the car is generally good in the snow (like I know saabs are). Thanks for the input.

As an avid skiier/snowboarder - my TSX fills the bill nicely most of the time - unless you need to plow through drifts or piles of snow in boulevard turnarounds you'll be fine. In the rare occasion my TSX doesn't get me through to the slopes - I take the wifey's CRV.
