license plates

Hi, i just have a question about my license plates.

it's been almost 8 weeks since i picked up my 2005 tsx. when i bought and picked up the car on jan. 8, i was told it would take about 3 weeks to get my plates and they'd either call me so i can pick them up or mail them to me.

after the 3rd week, i emailed the guy that sold the car to me and he said that my plates hadn't come in yet. so i went and picked up another temporary plate. when i picked up the temporary plates, i was told that they have a new employee who is in charge of the titles and plates and that they're backed up with all the december and january purchaes.

now it's been almost 8 weeks..i'm gonna have to go back this weekend and pick up another temporary plate as my plates "have not come in yet."

has anyone else had to wait this long to get their plates? any advice to speed up the process? thanks for your help.

Tell them that you can't take it anymore. Tell them that you are losing money and they should do something for you after 8 weeks. At least get a free oil change or something.

yea last time i went in to get new temporary plates, i made sure i looked annoyed when the salesguy was giving me the plates. he told me that the dealership would get me a free oil change and car wash. i was like that's fine, but i just want my plates.

i mean, it's cool and all not having the plates, as it feels like a brand new car still, but like someone said in response to my post in virtualbong's thread, it's annoying driving around with a piece of paper taped to the rear windshield. thanks for your help though.

I don't get it... don't you want paper plates on your car as long as possible? It's a mark of status on the West Coast...

Take your reg into the DMV and see if you're even in the system.

well i just got back from the dealership, and i picked up my plates.

i emailed my salesguy on thursday and he said the plates were in, and they had called and left me a message. of course i never got the message so i replied and said i'd pick them rather than them mailing it to me.

so i picked up the plates this morning, had them put on at the service department, and got 2 acura keychains. now i just need to figure out whether or not i'll keep the front plates on the car. has anyone in houston had a problem with not having their front plates on?

(and thanks for everyone's replies. as usual, this board is most helpful!)

I have a similar (but slightly worse) problem. My dealership is over 100 miles away. They offered to mail me my plates, and I of course said "sure". I emailed a week later, and they said, "oh, we forgot, we'll send them right away". A week after that I email again, and got no reply (still haven't). I called the next day, and they still had my plates. Said "we'll overnight them and you'll have them tomorrow". "tomorrow" was yesterday, and I still don't have plates. In the mean time my paper ones say "2/24/2005" and it's now 3/5/2005 so I'm getting a little nervous driving around.

damn in cali you just get the paper plates till the real ones come with 4-6 weeks. But some fools out here of course keep the paper ones on so they can brag about I guess their new ride.

if they sent it via overnight, do they have a tracking or airbill number? that way you can go online at the courier's website and track the shipment.

i wouldn't worry too much about driving around with the temporary plates. the paper one i had before i just got my plates said 2/26/05 and i recall driving past like 5-6 police cars. i even had one behind me this morning at red light. if they pull you over, you can just say that you're waiting for the plates to come in the mail.

Every state does it differently. In CT, dealers are authorized to issue the plates to you directly, and then file the paperwork with the DMV. In many other states, the dealer gives you some kind of temporary plate, files the paperwork with the DMV, and then the DMV either sends you the plates, or sends them to the dealer for you to pick up.

Frankly, I think the CT way makes the most sense. Just give all new car dealers a bunch of plates, require them to lock them up appropriately, and allow them to give them to you immediately with the car. In this day and age, the technology is there for them to be available from day one.

I bought my TSX in Plano but now currently living in Austin. I took my front plates off as soon as I got them put on. I am in Houston all the time and I have not had any problems. However, I do keep my front plate in my trunk just in case I get pulled over. I can tell the po-po's it fell off in case they ask

Amazingly... Monday, and still no plates... I thought surely they would be here today since they said they would overnight them on Thursday.

I call them today, and the person that handles plates leaves at 5pm... so I had to leave her a voice mail... which means I still don't have a tracking number either. Man, at this point I almost hope I do get a ticket just so I can make them pay for it... LOL... actually, on second thought... no, I just want my plates.
