Did I hurt my car??

I have a new to me 2005 TSX AT with 2300 miles on it. I was using the sport shifter and was supposed to go into third but accidently shifted into first again. The car stuttered around 7100rpms and I noticed my error and corrected it. All seems good and running great I just hope I didn't hurt my car.

It shouldn't go in to first if the rpms are too high. If it does, there's a problem! You shouldn't be able to shift in to 1st at like 80mph. It won't let you! If it does, not goody! See dealer fo shizzle!

You didn't hurt it. The stutter you describe is probably the rev limiter cutting fuel to the injectors. I am a little confused how you "miss-shifted". The SS is sequential. You can't accidentally skip a gear.

It would only allow that if the engine was not in danger of over revving. The transmission is dummy proof so I wouldn't worry.

Oh, OK, I see. You were in second and instead of shifting to third you went into first? No, you didin't damage anything. You hit the rev limiter which is there to protect the engine from overrevving. The rev limiter cut fuel to the injectors which is why it sputtered that way. I know because I've done the same thing.

When you were in 2nd about to shift to 3rd (supposingly), what rpm were you at? I accidentally shifted from 3rd (very close to redline) to 2nd in a loaner TL, and the check engine light came on. I shut the car off and restarted, and the check engine light went away.

At your age, I'm not surprised.

^ HAhaha..

if the engine (ecu) let you shift, it means it did no harm, or not that much. or else, it wouldn't have let you shift. If you wanna try, when you redline 2nd, push down and try to shift to 1st, it won't let you! the number should flash.....
