A/C Compressor cycle off under high RPM? - Anyone confirm?
Hey Tsxers,
I notice that under heavy acceleration, probably above 4500 RPM, my A/C seems to blow humid, warm air. But after it drops back down to under 3k, the A/C seems to be working fine. I think that the compressor is cycling off, but is this normal? Or is my refrigerant filled too high, causing excessive pressure in the system and the compressor just turns off to compensate? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure this is normal (I'll need help from other members to confirm this). When the ECU reads that you want more power, for example WOT & going above a certain RPM reading, it will do what it can to get you that power. So it deactivates unnecessary items like A/C temporarily. More specific, the clutch for the A/C deactivates. Then when the ECU senses you don't want more power, the clutch activates, and A/C resumes.

Wow, every time I know I'm going to exercise the engine I shut my A/C off manually first. Now you're telling me the car does it for me? The TSX keeps getting better. I'll have to test this out.

I read that other vehicles have this feature but don't know for sure re: TSX. I also have a Honda S2000 and with that car you can't tell anything re: the A/C after it hits 5000 rpm because the VTEC kicks in and you take off like a rocket! The TSX is my wife's car.

Hmmm. The A/C clutch engaging/disengaging has a noticeable affect on power even when accelerating modestly, even during normal A/C cycling on/off.
I'd think you would feel a kick when it disegages if this is true, almost like a mini VTEC switchover.

Doesn't specifically include the TSX (it's a Honda Service News...not Acura) but I'd imagine the TSX works similarly. Bottom of page 1.

Thanks for the responses. I think this is under heavy acceleration with WOT, not necessarily RPM speed. I feel better now to know that this happens to others and that it is a characteristic of the car.
