Brake pad installation cost
Brake pad installation cost
hey guys, i have all 4 brake pads and i'm looking to have them installed. i called the dealer by me and they want almost $300 (install + resurfacing of the rotors). that seems a bit much. i'm in the new york area; anybody with any good experiences or recommendations?
There is no way it should cost $300, even in New York.
Maybe post in regionals to see if anyone around you is willing to do it for you, because I know it's pretty commonplace that one installs their own rotors.

$300 for all four pads/rotors is NOT unreasonable to my knowledge. It might be high, but not unreasonable, for the stealership.
One advantage when you get this done at the stealership is that they resurface the rotors while they're mounted on the car.

I just bought pads and rotors for all 4 corners at Autozone for $260 and had my long time mechanic put them on for $140. I thought that was a pretty darn good price for everything that stops as good as stock from what I can tell so far having driven with them for almost a week. I got the Duralast rotors and pads (the C-Max ones).
yes i have some tools and i'm willing to try it myself. the only thing is i couldn't find a DIY on this. it would be awesome if you could help me (and i'm sure others) out.

A local car shop is asking $120 for the install but won't resurface the rotors (the mechanic didn't even know what i was talking about)
In matter of fact, my order should be here this week or early next week. I'll have a pad & rotor replacement DIY.
does anyone know how bad it is if you don't resurface the rotors when installing new brake pads?
first of, if a shop doesnt know what resurfacing is dont go there! rotors rarely need resurfacing, and changing pads is very very easy, u need a socket wrench (14 and 12mm socketts and i think a 16? or an adjustable whench) a c-clamp and a caliper turning cube for the rear calipers, but honeslty its not worth the hassel sometimes. a fair price is no more than 120. it took me about an hour and a half with hand toold and a floor jack to change all 4 corners. a shop, obviously using a lift and air tools should do the job in 40 min to an hour, hence just as how much they charge per hour labor (about 60-80 in nyc). but of course this is nyc and every shop and everyone is prerty much a jerk and is gonna try to rip you off.
doing brakes is ridiculously easy.....
if you see someone do it after you paid for the installation, you'll kick yourself in the head!!!
youtube is your friend for lots of car DIY. this is for a honda pilot but basically the same process

The fronts pads lasted beyond 90k, and I replaced the pads and rotors together. The front has considerable more stopping power, and read enough times about the OEM rotors warping after being cut. I figured there was no point in potentially adding the cost of resurfacing on top of the rotors I was eventually going to buy, and doing the job twice instead of once...
DIY Brake & rotor replacement done. enjoy!
