Arm Rest Storage Bin lid
Arm Rest Storage Bin lid
Does anyone have a suggestion for the "sticking hinge" of the driver's arm rest storage bin lid? Everytime I open mine the inner tray opens with the lid, no matter which tab I lift on. I don't know if its just a matter of lurication or something else to fix it.
I haven't seen anyone mention this problem in a year or so, so I guess it doesn't happen with more recent year models (I have an '04 with 49k miles.)

I had the same issue. My car is CPO so before I drove it off the lot, I wanted them to fix it. They dont replace the entire arm rest. The service rep explained to me they replace the spring in the armrest controlling the top portion. But who knows, the service rep could have just tried to simplify the explanation, even tho I used to work in a shop.

They're supposed to hold the top tray down when the correct lever is depressed. Unfortunately the tabs don't quite do the trick. What I did is I took black electrical tape and put a small piece over the tabs, and now the tray stays down when I want it to.
I am rather surprised to read that on models as late as '06 it is still a problem. Seems like an issue that (1) has been known from the earliest production of TSX's and (2) should not be too hard for Acura to fix the design on. Maybe with the problem being related to the plastic parts of the armrest/storage bin, and if Acura bought, like, a million of the assemblies thinking they would be needing them for several years, now they are stuck with the parts so they just keep putting them in the cars. (Although that sounds more like something Ford would do.)
Its a minor problem, but one which vexes me every time I get into the bin (which is frequently), because about half the time I want something from the tray (and NOT the storage area.) And there is no way to get it to open to the tray without using both hands - not always the easiest thing when you're wearing a seat/shoulder belt, driving down the road.
I considered doing the wd-40 route too, but I also have parchment, so I didn't want any greasy stains on the interior. Putting the strips of tape on the tabs definitely worked and doesn't create any mess.

I have the parchment interior color and I'm afraid any hinge lube, particularly if it is quite viscous like WD 40, would either show or would cause dust and dirt to stick to whatever it is on.

Remove the two screws from the armrest hinge and remove the assembly. Then, flip it upside-down and look at the hinges. There is a gap where the sheet metal is rolled to form the hinges.
I took a tweaker screwdriver and spread that gap just a tiny bit (maybe .010 to .020 inches more) Everything is now free and working nicely.
Very easy...!!
