Anyone having 4500 rpm cutoff?

Why does my engine not rev above 4500 rpm's in neutral?
Is this normal?
I don't remember this ever happening.

Because there isn't a 215-235 width tire in the world that will launch above 4500 RPMs on a FWD car without spinning like mad?

This is normal, to protect your engine. There have been previous discussions on this. Here is one.

It's there by design to prevent people from reving it too high without load. The fuel cutoff in neutral is 5000 rpm for AT and 4500 for MT. It can be slightly lower when the engine is cold.

Thanks all.
i've had the car for over a year, and for whatever reason today I decided to rev it in neutral.
It just struck me as odd, but makes sense now.

Try only on a Honda.
Don't try it on any other car especially on a GM... or the pistols may punch a hole through the engine block.

Now that I think about it, my buddies 2000 3-series does the same thing, except that it
cuts off right before redline.

And yes! GM has usually have bigger pistol... probably one of those 12 gauge or Magnum size.

And you all know those tiny Hondas have tiny pistol... probably just .22mm
