Just wanted to let my fellow 1st Gen TSX'rs know that I currently hit 480,000 miles in my 2005 TSX. Only 20k to go to hit the big 500k! May be there in May or so... To those that have been following along, thanks for your support! I really appreciate it!
Congrats on running and maintaining your car so well to have this milestone in reach. Not a small amount of luck as well to not have any accidents. Is your engine burning any oil? My 04 is at a comparatively paltry 205 K and I burn about a quart every 2500 miles now (dino oil).

well...... I have wrecked the car twice- (Totaled both times) & Rebuilt twice. But still going strong. Not burning any oil yet.
I thought that it was better to do a drain and refill only? Or am I wrong?
Nope, you're correct. Drain & refill only. Not sure why I typed Flush. Caught myself typing it out again just now instead of drain.
The trans has a magnet that catches any shavings and flushing may move some of those shaving into the system. Acura only recommends drain & refill. Thanks for catching that!

Thank you. One more question? My first time doing a drain and fill, I wanna take it to the dealer, or an auto shop, such as Greg's Japanese Auto Shop, just because the shop also has a good amount of experience on Acura's. Which do you suggest?

Personally, I've done ALL dealer & it's hard to argue the results despite the cost. But thats not to say the dealers have the only qualified techs. Do some research, & if the shop has techs that are properly trained, then why not? I found that once you pick a good shop/dealer. stick with them and build a relationship. I cant tell you how much free stuff I get from my dealer. hats, shirts, promo stuff, but more importantly, anytime something seems off, i can swing in anytime they're open & get free diagnostic, road testing, they'll wash it any time i want regardless if im there for service or just a wash. they've even put me in a new loaner for a couple days trying to track down a noise in the cabin for me! they're loyal to me because im loyal to them. Just a thought

So on the forum and what I've read it's all recommending ATF drain and fill.
But looking at my TL I bought 2 years ago I have a pile of receipts from the prior owner from the Acura dealer...and TWO ATF services both say "9quart ATF flush service"
And I've heard of dealers doing ATF flushes....so this is where I am weary to take it to the dealer. It may not mean they know exactly what to do. I've only done drain and fill since buying the car with the ATF.
Another thing is I've heard of them having ATF flush machines....and also if you think about time/effort, it takes them way easier to just flush it through rather than drain and fill and drain and fill.
So not sure if anyone actually works at an acura dealer on this forum, but would be an interesting thing to findout for sure...
Any incidents of VTC Actuator rattle on startup? This seems to be a common problem on 2nd Gen TSX, but I've never seen anyone of 1st Gen complain of this problem. Both have VTC actuators on similar engines.

I called my service guys at the dealer and they confirmed "drain & fill" only recommended & thats what they've been doing to my car. I would confirm with the dealer thats its drain only, maybe its a verbiage thing on their form? but if they only want to flush, then i'd go somewhere else. sadly, not all dealers are the same.

good luck
Thanks, & nope. No rattling at start up. not yet anyway. im in uncharted territory right now. when ever something new crops up I usually go straight to the dealer to have it diagnosed. I'll have it fixed on the spot depending on what it is. or i'll put it off for a few months. right now i need a new power steering pump due to seeping fluid (original pump) and what I believe to be an axle vibration. I'll have them both fixed in the next couple months.

My 04 is at 220K and does not burn any oil. It leaks a little bit, but I never have to add oil between changes.
