Please introduce yourself and your ride to us. As for your transmission problem, it could be numerous things. You can start by checking your fluid level if you haven't done so already. Your transmission could be slipping, or torque converter problem. Get a transmission shop to check it out. Welcome aboard!

Maybe your transmission is stuck and won't switch into the next gear... I would get that check ASAP. You will never know, it could be something as simple as a loose connector.

I have a 97 2.5TL that has a bad torque converter and permanently presents code P0740. Do you have a Check Engine Light? If yes, get the code and it will help solve the problem.

good luck

No, the check engine light is not on. what do u mean by the present code thing?? I refuse to go on any highway now because the car just drinks the gas. on average how many km/miles do you guys get per full tank of gas???

My 2.5TL gets 25 mpg on road w/o lockup torque converter and around 22 mpg around town.

I meant Check Engine Light is always on and same code P0740.

Car has only 4 forward gears. Lockup may feel like a soft gear shift in some.

good luck

It's a 4-spd trans w/ a LockUp torque converter. LU only locks engine to drive train (eliminating torque converter slip) and has no affect on gear ratio.

Depending on your driving habits 8.5 l/km is not horrible, particulary if LU is not working.

good luck

oh okay. thanks for the help. i believe its the converter or jus my tranny is slowly going cus even when it shifts gears it seems to jerk more then it should. and when im accelerating and let go of the gas it jerks a bit aswell. if my tranny is going does that interfere with how much gas i burn aswell??

Might want to change the tranny filter and fluid. See if that helps the shifting, I've read on here where thats helped numerous shifting problems.

Do a drain and fill and filter replacement. See if that does anything.
