TCS & Engine Light
TCS & Engine Light
The TCS and engine light are on in my daughter's 2000 TL. When this happened previously, Acura replaced the transmission.
The current reading shows this is a code 0300. Acura says this is different than last time. Can anyone tell me what this one is about or how to fix it?

Welcome to the forum
Please be more specific as it can mean many things- codes are not diagnosis, they are clues
Did acura dealer test the car and say its not the tran,s its something else?
They should have told you what it needs and given a price to you.
Or was the code pulled at parts store?
How is the car driving- does the TCS work?

She took it to Acura and they said it was "random misfiring" - code 0300 and recommended a valve adjustment for $700.
The car is running fine - just these lights are on.
Do you know if this is necessary at this time?

Dude, ANOTHER 2G TL in the wrong section... Even crazier, another 2000 model year one...
Go to AutoZone, have the code cleared. IF it comes back, there's something wrong. I think the stealership is trying to take advantage of the fact it was your daughter who brought it in. We had a girl on here who got one story at the dealer when she went alone, and another when she went with her boyfriend.
I also highly doubt they're actually going to do a valve adjustment. Check your plug wires and spark plugs to see if that isn't the cause, as plugs were what caused my buddy's AV6 to misfire. After dropping Iridiums in for him and clearing the code, the car has run perfectly since.
~Cheers~

a 2000 should be running on coilpacks not plug wires
Often a misfire code is really 1 coil going bad. Then it will generate a multiple misfire code and they say to replace ALL the coils. Instead you buy 1 at 50 bucks and try it on each plug until the car runs good again.
You could need a valve adjustment. The TL should run like an expensive sewing machine- no noise-ticking from the valves. How does it sound with the hood up and listening close or with a mechanics stethascope? At 105k you are supposed to do a valve adjustment and if a few to several have gotten just a little loose or tight- that affects the computer feedback because the wrong amount and timing of the valve opening....it can really mess up fuel injected cars and is often used to have a baseline of known- the valves are right- the plugs are new etc
I would also do a seafoam treatment- 1 can in 1/4 tank of gas to clean injectors and 1 can in intake vac line to clean valve seals and piston tops,
seafoam is tune up in a can. Codes appear for a reason! dont ignore it and think nothing is wrong- the lights are yellow for a reason too~
