RPM's raising up and down on highway.
RPM's raising up and down on highway.
Hello, I have a 1997 Acura 2.5TL with 185,000 miles. I am having a problem with my car on the highway. Re-enacting the situation, I am driving down the highway/faster speeds and the rpm is running a little high. I am running at about 3k rpms at 60mph, the car is in 4th gear as I can feel it shift into that gear. As I am driving all of the sudden it will drop about 250 rpms and I feel a great loss of power. I cannot accelerate very well on the highway, I will put my foot to the floor and the rpms with a bit of a delayed reaction will sky rocket but the car will accelerate slowly.
This process will go in and out, my car will drive normal then I will have the symptoms above sporadically.
I need help, my car is running terrible and it is quite annoying. TexasHonda, anyone?
Thanks,
Scott

Maybe a trans issue.
I would suggest draining ATF and removing trans pan to replace the inlet screen filter. Sometimes this works wonders.
It is normal for rpm to drop back when torque converter lockup occurs. My son's 97 2.5TL will never lockup which set CEL on all the time. A pain, but not worth replacing transmission. It drives fine otherwise.
If spark plugs are old, I would replace them and new sparkplug tube gaskets w/ valve cover gasket. Oil on spark plugs from leaking spark plug tube seals will sometimes cause problems.
Check distributor for oil leaks, cracked distributor cap or rotor.
Occasionally a new O2 sensor (under battery box) can greatly improve drivability problems.
good luck
