Egr ports help
Anyone know of a D.I.Y. for the First Generation TL of cleaning out the egr ports and removing intake manifold. Need your help, anyone who has done this maybe have some pics and advice. Basically need to know what stuff to remove and what gaskets to order. I own the 3.2TL. I have a general idea but do not want to run into any problems with replacement parts. I've had this problem since I bought the car and am dreading it. I finally want to get that check engine light off!

Can you guys help me please?

Definitely not even close I'm at 176k already I do quite a bit of driving. Anyways found this online is this pretty much the same layout for the 1997 3.2 TL ....http://www.acura-legend.com/vbulleti...leaning-79886/ ......this is for a 1996 3.5 RL, what do you guys think? Sorry you can click on any one of the pics to get a better look as well.

Its not too hard. I had mine off to swap with the type2 manifold. My egr passage was almost completely plugged.
The plenum gaskets dont cost too much, but the manifold-to-head gaskets are REALLY expensive. $40 for each side.
I bought a headgasket kit on ebwy for $60, and it came with everything i neede, plus heagaskets.
Pm me, and i can try to send pictures

Sorry for anyone looking at this thread will post a D.I.Y. for anyone who needs help but I do strongly suggest removing intake manifold and cleaning everything. So I'm working on a step by step D.I.Y. just haven't had enough time to myself due to a new baby on the way. A really simple job just plan ahead to part out with two complete days to do everything right (at least that was my case). I think the reason no one posts a thread for this is because once you really get into it you forget to keep taking pics and just worry about not forgetting something or just getting it done.
Thanks.

How did it look when you removed the egr plate where the port is was it blocked off and caked with goop? If not you might just need to swap egr valves reason why? I cleaned my first one which I picked up at a junk yard $50 and still got the CEL back it wasn't until I swapped egr valves and thoroughly cleaned my old one that it hasn't reappeared. Don't worry I got you covered I haven't forgot. It can't be the manifold itself because mine wasn't too bad and I have 178k.
The thing was the plate was not as caked with carbon. I reamed it and it looked decent. I am with you maybe it is my EGR valve. Should I start looking for a replacement valve? Thanks.
The CEL is so annoying.

Mandy are you sure you reamed it all the way down to the intake manifold. Look at the hole on the intake manifold from the inside on the right bottom corner of this picture http://www.acuraautomotiveparts.org/...s=&view=normal
If you didn't ream it all the way changing the egr valve would be useless. Here's a way to check for obstruction the diaphragm on the egr valve the circular part of it that goes up and down when it actuates, when idling in the driveway is it down?, if so pull it up the car should stall or try to stall, if not you have something obstructing the egr system still. If that test clears then I would assume egr valve diaphragm not actuating properly.

Let me understand:
Normally on idle valve should be down. If I lift the valve, the car should stall. If it stalls the EGR valve is working.
On idle if I pull the valve and nothing happens, the EGR is not functioning and I have a clogged EGR port.
Did I get it?
Thanks.

Sorry I didn't specify which is not functioning egr valve could still be functioning but not when cruise speed is happening never mind that "if the car didn't stall that would mean you have something still obstructing the egr system, egr valve not included". The egr valve not functioning properly, in my case, I could hear it opening and closing while driving (still do) but if in some case it doesn't close all the way it will set the CEL on again like in my case.
