Driver side door locking problem

Hi
I have a problem with the driver side door lock in my 97 2.5TL. When i lock the door, regardless of how i lock it (key or switch) it locks fine but repeatedly attemps to "re-lock" the door. It clicks atleast 3 or 4 times every time i lock it, and sometimes repeats continously until i walk away. Sometimes it clicks a few times, then stops for a while, then after a few mins, starts to click again. It isnt really a bad problem but it is very very annoying and rather embarasing at times.

The acura dealer service department where i live (Victoria BC) says its the motor for the door lock and that i need to get the door actuator replaced. I think he said the part is about $250CDN + labour. Im not an expert but this doesnt seem like a perminant fix for the problem. Whatever is causing the door lock to get caught up or dirty will probialy cause this problem to repeat itself in a few years...

I have heard of this problem on this car a few times but i have never read about any solutions. Does anyone else have this problem? and if so how was it fixed?

A mechanic friend of mine says the problem was most likely the switch/sensor which tells the actuiator the door is locked isnt working properly. I dont want to give my money away to the dealer if it wont solve the problem.

Thanks in advance to anyone who responds.

Derek

hey, i almsot forgot

I am thinking about getting a remote keyless entry installed in the car. I was quorted about $300CDN for the whole job and i was wondering if the locking problem would possiably be fixed if i did that?

Im not sure why these cars dont come with them (only the 3.2 did) but thats another story.

First off, welcome to Acurazine you will find alot of info by using the search tab

I have a 97 2.5tl as well with the same problem. This is a very common problem on our cars and to be honest with you dont know why it was never recalled by Acura . The part is pretty damn expensive. Try some online salvage yards or oem acura sites to get a cheaper price. Labor basically consists of taking the door panel off and accesssing the actuatorand removing it . Should take an hour tops and is an easy DIY project. I havent got around to doing mine yet but have replaced many in my time on this model.

Regards

By the way I installed an alarm-keyless entry in my 2.5 and no it will not fix the actuator problem you are experiencing. Again welcome

Same problem here for about a month. The driver side door would lock on its own. But, we all know that on out tl's the door handles are "weak". I dont know if any of you have this problem, but i would find that my door handles would like stick out. What i do, is push my door handle so it would go back in to normal " no my door handles are NOT broken". after pushing them in, i didnt have the door locking problem at all. Therefore i would say maybe that's causing your problem i really dont know. But hey it solved my crazy door problem.

Do you guys still have the factory alarm?

That may be the issue if so.

yeah factory alarm is still on there. Yea that might be the issue too. But what i heard, is that reason it might do that, is that the sensor thinks someone is actually trying to open the door since the handles are out. Therefore i guess since the alarm/sensor whatever is a security feature, the doors lock on their own, who knows.

This should help.

If not check the sensors in the door also make sure that the latches are grabbing the hinges.

i dont think the problem would be the stock alarm. what i do is just disable it by opening my door with the key and turning it right, that just about disables the stock alarm. Plus, i would say its extra security lol. But yes, i would say the latches and hinges would be the problem. Your right Tlin 401

If you want security then you are better off getting a better alarm.

Try the method that I said and if that doesn't work then it is the latches.
