Does this sound like a bad A/C compressor???

My RPM needles goes up and down..up and down..up and down when the A/C is on and I'm at a stop light. As the needle bounces, the engine shakes along with the needle as it bounces. Not only that, my A/C is not as cold as it use to be (This is the first time in 15 yrs of owning the car that the air isn't as cold anymore..yet still cold air is blowing).

TexasHonda: Does this sound like a bad a/c compressor? If so, how much will it cost me? I'm going to guess around $1000..?? How much used? If it is that much, I am buying a new car b/c my car isn't worth that much (97 2.5TL).

If it is something else other than the a/c compressor, what is it and how much will it cost me? I'm so ready to jump the gun for the new Maxima or the Accord Coupe.

Most likely the IACV, throttle plate, and throttle bore need a good cleaning.

Turn cooling on manual, full cold, max fan, recirculate and allow car to cool for 10-15 mins. You should get at least 35-40F pulldown (cabin air temp-center vent temp). If substantially less, cooling is down.

good luck

Check your spark plug wires too. I had a similar issue, check the plug wires and one of them had a crack in it. After I replaced them the issue was resolved

reason? the thing with the two is that the honda looks great and a reliable engine and just an overall great car. The maxima just looks sexy to me! As far as engine and electronics are concern, I am taking a risk. This would be a first nissan car in the family and we have always been a honda/toyota family.

I'm just not 100% too sure about nissan/infiniti cars..

How do you clean the IACV and what is that?

The ac is an important part but not completely necessary unless you are dealing with the heat and like it cool. Most racers eliminate the ac compressor to leave room for engine to breathe. I am parting out a 1997 Acura TL 2.5 and I have a complete ac unit that I am selling if your interested. I can be reached at Naturalartworks@yahoo.com if you have any questions or need help with parts.
