Question CDPEO - why not add a changer?

My CD has given up the ghost. I have read lots of threads about this - I don't want an add-on unit, I prefer to stay original and I was thinking about sending the unit off to these guys:

However, can a trunk changer simply be added to the original head unit? Then I could keep my radio!

Anybody add a changer to the OEM?

You want to add a changer because of the error message? Because CDPEO just means it can't read the CD, I get that error in winter mornings, because as the car heats up it creates condensation(or wtf you call it) on the lens and therefore the CD cannot be read. The error does go away after 10-15 minutes.

That is the generic CD error message whether it's dirty, moist or dead. Been dead since summer. Sounds like you have not added a changer.

Nah, it's not worth adding a changer. Back in the days it was ok, but now that you can plug your iPod or any other mp3 player, the CD changer has become obsolete. I hate the regular head units, they just don't look nice, so when I get wealthier I'll buy a in dash DVD/Navigation system. It looks as if it's stock even though it wasn't available back in those days and I'll be able to plug my iPod.

If you do want to keep the factory stereo at all costs maybe you should just buy an adapter that plugs in the CD changer jack and you'll have all the music you want. Much more practical than a CD changer in my opinion.

Check this website, they have some for sale.

Thanks for the orange and cherry reviews, but I asked about apples. Anyhow, I found out that willman electronics will sell me a refurb and credit me for a "core swap" when I send them my old unit, so that'll work.
