A little more info is needed. Is the AC compressor failing to come on some times and no cooling, even though heater blower is moving air, or is heater blower not moving air?

good luck

im guessing the blower motor the ac works really cold when i want it cold or itll work really warm but it simply doesnt turn on not on full auto or if i set it a the different speeds when i go on the freeway i put it on full auto and itll say full auto and have the exterior air coming through right then the fatser i drive itll change to interior mode i guess the orange light next to the green light of the outside air and then the ac will blow cold air but i cant manualy turn it on nothing comes out only when driving do to the green button that allows air to seep through

Replacing blower is a major project or expensive repair. Search will reveal other posters w/ this problem.

good luck

A/C Clutch failure?

I have a 1996 2.5TL. The cold air quit blowing. I looked under the hood and the a/c pully and found black gunk, kind of like melted rubber seeping out of the area of clutch/pully. In fact, the black globby stuff was in a lot of places. I remvoed the belt and the pully moves freely and I can the clutch seems sloppy. Is this car in need of a new A/C clutch? Then, if so, how do you replace the clutch or minimum, get the bolt off? I can easily get a 10mm socket on the bolt but everything turns and I am unable to find a method to hold the clutch so as to loosen the bolt. Thanks ahead for anyone who can help.

You would need a clutch hub tool. Next question is where would you find a A/C clutch for a 96 2.5 TL? Sadly, from your description, I don't think that's your problem. In my experience, clutches don't expel "black globby stuff" when they go out and you likely have a more catastrophic failure in the system than the clutch. Look up "black death" as it relates to automotive air conditioning systems as I'm afraid that your car may have had that unfortunate experience.

The black stuff is likely lubricant from a leaking compressor. The lube attracts dirt and makes a mess. A replacement compressor or new shaft seal is necessary to seal.

good luck

Not trying to argue but I've seen what you describe and I've seen what he described. Two different things. Been around a lot of A/C systems in my time. What you're describing wouldn't be described as "black gunk, kind of like melted rubber seeping out of the area of clutch/pully".

It uses an expansion valve. Check car-part.com and ebay for used parts. supply may be thin.

good luck

Is your motor a v6 or 5 cylinder? 5 cylinders have a problem with the harmonic balancer coming apart.

Did you check to see if your fan is on inside the engine compartment while your a/c system is running?
