Brake problem

I have a 96 TL 2.5. When I start up the car it makes a strange noise from ABS equipment area under the hood. At first I thought it was a fuel pump. After a few minutes I here a click from the computer area and then the ABS light comes on. Any idea on what’s going on?

Thanks

You have an ABS system fault. ABS pump tries to establish pressure in the system and pumps until timed out. Then ABS controller turns system off and sets ABS light on dash.

First step in repair is to get the ABS fault code. Short the service check connector under the glove box, blue 2-wire plug usually stabbed into a dummy holder. Pinch and release. Install a wire jumper across the contacts.

Turn keyswitch to ON, and ABS light will illuminate for 2-secs to confirm bulb is working, and then codes will be flashed w/ all short (<1 sec flashes), short pause between 1st and 2nd digit of code, and 5-secs pause betweeen sequential codes. For example codes 4-1 and 4-2 would be ffff-p-f, 5-sec pause, and ffff-p-ff.

Report your codes and I may be able to provide some help for a fix.

Meanwhile you can also check the ABS reservoir on the modulator to see if it is full of brake fluid and check for signs of fluid leakage at the base of the ABS modulator. Modulator is at RF of engine compartment over the RF wheel.

good luck
