Blower fan on 1996 3.2TL not working...any ideas?
Hi,
The blower fan for the heater/ac is not working (right when you need it of course). I checked the fuse and it's fine. It went off and then came back on for about a week, but not it's not coming back on. I can feel the heat, but now fan blowing it on any speed. I have no idea where the fan is located (my brother-in-law suggested I "hit it" under the dashboard). I'm guessing it's either an electrical thing or the fan needs to be replaced. I was wondering if any one had any ideas and maybe if anyone knew how much money I'm looking at here to fix it.
Thanks so much!
Erin

Your brother-in-law had a good suggestion. A hard thump of the blower housing (under dash on pax side near center tunnel) may cause the blower to come back on for a short time (usually till it stops where it will not restart). This confirms the carbon brushes on the motor are worn out.
A new blower is major surgery on the 3.2 and 2.5 TL's requiring discharge of AC, removal of evaporator, to access blower. I would guess this is a $400-$500 labor plus parts (OEM is pretty pricey perhaps $300). There may be some decent rebuilt blowers on ebay. I would not go used due to large labor time to replace.
Aftermarket is $200 for 4-seasons, not my favorite rebuilder. Check w/ ackits.com for a better product, or go OEM if you plan to keep the car.
good luck
