Is a k&n replacement air filter worth the cost? About $50
I drive around 200 miles a week, probably more. 30 freeway miles per day.

if you plan on keeping the stock intake box and the car for a very long time, then yes. Cost of replacement for paper filters will end up being much greater than $50 + a K&N cleaning kit if you keep the car for the long run.

I usually wash them once or twice, then replace them. I'm running a truck K&N filter that's about double the size of a standard cone, though.

So I probably wouldn't see an increase in MPG? That's the only reason I would want one

If I could manage 25 MPG, I would be in heaven.

Maybe if I kept it under 80...

I put synthetic oil in the differential, and royal purple in the crankcase. Hopefully that will help.

Hard non-sporty tires at 35 psi will give you good gas mileage. I had some Toyos from Les Schwab for a while on the TL, I'd get high 20's driving on backroads at 60 mph.

Tires were noisy and terrible in the rain though, so I moved onto something more livable.

I have new toyo eclipses on the stock wheels.

With the timing belt done, and the fluids all changed, I'm running out of things to do!!!

I'm almost tempted to trade for an RL

On a VERY good day I get slightly above 24 mpg in the RL, just a warning

Its another 500 pounds of metal, sound deadening and electronics

Fueleconomy.gov says that the RL gets better MPG than the TL.

I wouldn't trust anything the EPA has to say on this, their fuel economy estimates especially for Hondas are consistently underrated.

The RL with a bigger engine, identical gear ratios and 500 extra pounds does NOT get better fuel economy.

I would hope not.
I probably shouldn't look at RL's...people already tell me that I drive a "grandma Acura"
But that was from a douchebag in a 91 civic hatch with no matching panels, and a fart can.
"Damn kids!" Lol

I once went to an RL meet, we had tea and played bingo. Nice folks

I don't care what people think of my ride. I like it, I get compliments on it all the time actually so forget what some kid in a rust bucket Civic has to say

I had a '91 Prelude with an H22 engine swap.. IMO that was cool

Still waiting for a 2004 - 2008 S2000 in white/tan or white/red and black to come my way

I gotta say that I do love my TL. Especially compared to my friends CRX.

Do you still have stock wheels? Sticky tires?

Ethanol in Oregon gas doesn't help either.

02 RSX wheels. 205/55/16s. The front tires are super hard, BigO touring or something. The rear are softer Bridgestone tourenza el 400s

A little late to this thread, but here's my input:

You will probably see a sustained 1 mpg increase after getting the K&N drop in filter. However, I also removed the intake resonator, which gave me another 1 mpg increase. I'm not sure that replacing the air filter alone will give you any increase because of the severe constriction of the intake resonator. Once you take it out, then the air filter becomes the bottleneck.

Also, don't expect better mileage from a 3.5RL. My family owns one and it gets 20-23 mpg in optimum conditions (all freeway driving, moderate acceleration). It'll drop down to 19 or less in heavy city driving.

The 3.2TL will get 22 mpg sustained and 27+ in optimum conditions.

I keep going back and forth whether to go K&N for my next filter in the RL. Haven't made up my mind yet.

BTW, the TL gets better MPG than RL. I get about 24-25 with the TL, 22-23 in the RL same conditions.

I've been debating getting K&N's for my new Diamante and my TL. I had one between my 96 J30 and 95 Altima for three years... Altima still has it, actually. Stupid damned head gasket blew though. ;_;

I just picked up another one, and I actually paid retail for it. Smaller element, but just the fact that it's new and doesn't have a load of road grime on it made a world of difference.

I was surprised to see that the K&N was smaller than stock.

I think it's worth it...I'm someone that's good with keeping the filter clean etc...it just seems like a good idea. Plus, intake res removal too.

I had my resonator off for a while, but I hated the noise it made.
