Generally when you can't get the caliper to retract they are bad.. I had the same problem when I did the rear brakes. I loosened up the bleed valve to let a little pressure and managed to get em back in... Well it seemed fine but the brake pedal started feeling real spongy.. I had Midas do a free brake inspection ( ). They said when they blocked off the rear brakes the pedal was fine so the rear calipers are in fact bad..

Anyways.. after saying all that I'm gonna guess they are bad and you'll need to replace the calipers.. They are like 70 bucks a piece here.. Oh and I can't remember for a fact, but I think the pads fell off just as you explained..

on alot of rear brakes you have to use that tool that will allow you to turn the piston in.

yeah i used that and it broke it, so i went back to kragena nd they gave me another one it broke that one too, maybe its time to either buy a stronger tool or get a new calliper

Well i finished a buddie of mine gave me the idea of actually twisting the piston back in with a set of needle nose pliars and it worked great way easier than using that damn tool so if ne of u come across this porblem it seems the pliars worked great for me

Yeah make sure you turn those rear pistons. It's hard in the beginning but once you get a few turns it gets much easier. Speaking of brake pads I gotta do mine soon.

hehehheh, i was changing mine last week. Replaced the front rotors with drilled ones, and teh pads. When I got to the rear, i encounter the rear caliper... I had to put back on the tires, and call it a day hehe. Might as well bring the car to a shop with the tool and have them machine the rotors while they are at it

I just hope you have better luck than I did... Like I said I had trouble getting mine compressed and then started losing break pedal a little later after forcing em closed.

You have to turn the pistons while pressing them it. You can get a tool from Pepboys, Kragen, Sears etc. It looks a cube. Or, you can get a entire kit
