EARLIER TODAY I DID TRANS FLUSH BECAUSE MY FLUID WAS FREAK'N FILTHY. AND SOME GUYS TOLD ME "YOU SHOULDNT FLUSH IT IF YOU NEVER FLUSHED BEFORE YOUR GOING TO CAUSE PROBLEMS NOW" IS THE GUY FULL OF OR IS THERE SOME TRUTH IN WHAT HE WAS TELLING ME. MY CAR SHIFTS WAY BETTER NOW

Actually from what I've been told, if you havent had it done in a while, usually the tranny will start slipping if you do it high milage. I did it to mine at 104K and my tranny was fine, honda tranny's tend to be bullet proof, but most trannys will fall apart after a flush. all the gunk and crap holding the tranny together gets flushed out...but if you havent been able to tell that its slipping yet, your all good i'm sure...I was ok.

Are you joking me??? Obviously you haven't popped your head in the Second Gen forum, where tons of members experience tranny problems. Saying that honda tranny's are bullet proof would be an outright lie...Honda trannies SUCK...period!!!

Honda auto trannies WERE bullet proof. PRE 1998+ Accords and '99+ TL's

Our TL's use the old style which IS reliable

He said in general. Look at all the Civics and Accords that have 100+k miles on them or even well over that and still run strong. One set of bad trannies for a generation of cars doesnt paint all honda trannies as crap.

Do you have any idea how many Honda models are under recall for trannys right now? There are so many that Honda is litteraly having to phase the recalls as to not overwhelm the dealerships.

This is not a one model issue. Every since they went to the five speed auto, they've been having problems getting them to last.

Well, I can definitely say not ALL Honda products have bad trannies. My dad's car, a '90 Accord EX has 220k miles on it and it has absolutely no problems at all. My mom's car, a '98 Accord EX-V6, which has a 4-speed, has 70k miles on it and still doesn't have problems at all. It still drives like new. I've heard the only problem is with the 5-speed auto trannies.

The 5 spd automatic was outsourced to another company. That's the ones they are having trouble with right now.

I know for a fact that the 2nd gen TL and the 2nd Gen CL were both designed completely in the US. It would make sense that some of their components be outsourced in a cost saving measure.
We pay in the reliability department.

Even so, the actual number of bad trannies are low. Honda is still up there in terms of reliability.

I see what you are saying. The new trannies have had a lot of issues, i wont argue with that. But the old trannies are quite reliable.

Yeah, just keep the thing serviced at it'll last forever. Even if you don't need it, a flush won't hurt.

Absolutely - the older trannys are reliable. The five speeds will also be reliable at some point as well - hopefully the '04 and '05 TL's wont have these issues. (Also - hopefully the reman'ed units we get will also have those fixes in them.)
