I had a CEL come on last week, P0401, and i looked it up online and cleaning the EGR was supposed to fix it... so i did... adn that shit is hella dirty... But the CEL is still on... could it be something else by any chance?

 

After I cleaned the EGR passage way, light stayed on and I had to reset the code with the scanner for it to go away.

 

Unplug the battery and let the system restart itself.

 

Did you clean the EGR manifold downstream of the EGR valve? This can be the source of the problem.

If you bypass the EGR solenoid vacuum switching valve and bring vacuum directly to the EGR, it should open w/ engine at idle. This should cause the engine to stumble and perhaps stop due to overleaning the air/fuel mixture. If nothing happens, the EGR passages downstream from the EGR valve are blocked and must be cleaned.

whooo thanks for the unplugging battery suggestions... never would have though of that lol... i probably wouldve been more prone to taking apart the whole engine to fix it isntead
