Intake Questions

What all is within the intake that makes it quiter? Is there a silencer of some sort? If so where is it and how can I remove it? Thanks!

I don't believe that the intake makes anything quieter. It actually causes more air to be sucked through the engine, thus creating a louder "whoosh."

Maybe this isn't the answer to your question. Are you asking about the stock air box; you can remove the intake resonator, which would cause your intake to create a louder sound.

Maybe I'm confused. Oh well hoped this helped.

For clarification I have the stock box with the K&N airfilter in it. I did the little airbox trick as listed in the thread below mine.

Hmmmmm.

About removing the intake resonator, I'm not quite sure on the steps. Seeing as how the resonator is connected directly to the intake tubing, I don't see how it would be removed from the tubing.

Maybe someone else could enlighten you on this operation.

I don't know about the 2.5. I've only done it on the 3.2 Maybe the procedure is the same.

You remove the left passenger wheel and pop the plastic screws that are holding the wheelwell liner in. Then, shine a light up into the area behind the front bumper that was covered by the wheel well. Find some screws and take them out. The resonator is a fairly bulky plastic box. Once you have taken out the screws, (there's a few) you just give it a firm tug and the assembly will come out.

ive never done it on this car but in my previous car, i had to take out the wheel thats next to the air box, unclip the clips of the black plastic inside the wheel well, (cant remember the rest lol) but thats what i remember doing. i was doing a ghetto cai using one of those foil tubings that are sold at home depot. one end of the tube was exposed in the front grill and the tube was ran in the same way the stock tube ran and the other end of the foil tube was right next to my aftermarket air filter/intake...voila! cai

TLBaller, my girlfriend drives a 1988 Porsche 911.

You can try and impress her all you want by balling. She'll chirp her tires from 1st to 2nd. That's her way of saying "nope, tooo slow."

Hmm, I thought you had a shop.

Take a small flat head screwdriver and pry up the middle circle bit. That's the anchoring stem. Once it comes up, you can pull out the whole plastic rivet. To reattach, put the rivet in place and then push down on the stem.

the one on the intake elbow?

disconnect the rubber intake elbow from everything, unscrew the clamp holding on the U-shaped resonator, and flip it around so the solid end plugs the hole.

Regarding the whole resonator issue from what I understand there are two of them one within the elbow going into the throttle body and the other is attached to the end of the intake tube behind the front bumper. (96' 2.5) I am not 100% that I am right on this subject so anyone who knows better please inform me. Because I would like to know for a fact where it is and how everyone else went about removing it. I am looking for advice.

1st, no one makes any intakes for the 1st gen 2.5L. everyone has looked. you can make a custom one like HQuakers with a CAI made for the 97 accord, i think. he just modified the pipe a little and put a bypass valve in. Here's the link to the 1st gen site. d/l the powerpoint. http://www.bookworm25.com/TL/
2nd, to take the resonators out, you dont need to take the tire off. jsut get a socket wrench and unscrew the bolts under the front of the car, holding the "bumper" on. it is really only a piece of plastic over the metal bumper. open the hood, take a screwdriver, and pop the grill off by unhooking it from the 4 little plastic things. then unscrew the bumper and take it off. from there, all you gotta do is use the wrench to take off the resonator piece by piece. it's pretty simple once you get the bumper off. good luck PM me if you have any more questions

Damn you guys do a post search and see my yahoo website for pics of my weapon R intake, it was originally listed as 95 legend intake, but Weapon R checked it out and it works for 96-98 3.2tl I dunno bout 2.5. Anyway its bout $145 shipped with a heat shield (at least when I got it) look for the post on this and you will find the website (not weapon R direct order).

I dont know if this is going to work, but on my cardomain page, I have a pic posted of my Weapon R intake. It was pretty easy to install, and makes the car sound mean after 3 grand. I like it! If the link doesnt work, try my cardomain site. (I also attached the link for the one I bought).

http://www.rswerks.com/store/agora.c...&ppinc=search2

p.s. It didnt work, just check out my cardomain page (its in my sig) if you want to see what it looks like.

Question, when removing the resonantor is it pretty easy? I want to remove, becuase I heard it increases gas mileage also when installing an intake is that easy as well? BTW, I have a 3.2 with TCS and looking at all those wires that are connected to the air filter and tube it makes things confusing. SO how did it take you guys to install an intake and remove the resonantor from a 3.2TL with TCS and I'm thinking about getting the weapon r dragon intake.

It is easier to remove the resonator by taking off the bumper completely. All you have to do is take out the huge white box like thing once the bumper is off. I went to the next step and made a cold air intake while i had the bumper off. It made a nice little difference. The sound is pretty sweet.
