Help removing stereo!
Ok I locked up the stereo code on my g/f's 96 2.5 TL when I left the radio on while detailing it (
) The dealer (a.k.a  )she got it from doesnt have the code and wants to charge 70 bucks to pull the stereo to reset it. I havent called them myself to "discuss" this with them, but I thought I'd pull the stereo myself if it looked easy. I'm not sure where to start with this thing.. I dont want to just start prying on stuff and break crap..
Does anyone have any pointers on removing it? Do I have to tear apart the entire dash? Does the piece around the stereo pop out?
Any help would be great
Thanks,
Sam

first off take the wood off ... it seems hard but itpulls off ( ive done it alot and nothing has broken) the ac controls will come off with this make sure to disconnect the plugs b4 you take it out ... that piece is out now and thats done with ( set it aside could put on top of dash)
there are 4 screws holding in the radio phillips head just pop those out and you can pull the radio out .. again take the plugs out of the radio.
btw im sure you can call another dealer( a nice one) and give them your vin #( i think ) and they can give you the code... your dealer is trying to make some money thats why there saying that
your best bet is to call around first b4 you do anything

Wow, thanks for the quick and thorough response

So all I have to do is pry off the wood trim and I'm set.. That doesnt sound bad at all.. I'm gonna try it first thing in the morning..
Oh and she called another dealer and they said 40 bucks. Which also irritates me because that isnt even the place she bought it and they were cheaper.. But neither place was able to locate it with the vin# and said they needed the serial # on the back of the stereo. That's why they wanted to charge $$ .. to remove the stereo
So I'm gonna take it out and call in the serial #
Thanks again!

Hey Sam,
Look through your manuals and look for a white sticker (small label) with some numbers on it.
When new, the car comes with couple of them to stick on the car somewhere or manual.
That could save you some headaches if you find this. If I remember correctly, you can only put numbers in 3 times before it shuts off and it's useless until it's been turned off for a long time.
The VIN number is good if you need a spare key but not for the radio.
So you'll need the serial number of the radio if the code sticker is not avail.
good luck,
M
THANKS!
Thanks, guys! I did check everywhere again for the code and stickers, but no luck. I just went ahead and yanked the stereo w/ everyone's tips and it was extremely easy. Took me all of 5 minutes
Called the dealer and the fella I spoke with was actually pretty nice. I got the code, saved a few bucks and have tunes again
Just wanted to thank everyone for the tips!
