Help..........

A few weeks ago, I put premium gas in my 96'TL which usually runs fine on regular unleaded but ever since I used premium gas, the car has been making a "pinging" noise when accelerating. I took it to the shop and they said it was just bad gas and I should go back to using regular unleaded. It been a few week and the noise is still there so I'm wondering if anyone has come across problem if so, what I can do to fix it.

i cannot see why premium would do that to your car. that is what your car is supposed to take (for the 2.5 anyways). for that engine anyways, you usually don't get ping, but would if you used the lower grade gas. go for a gas that has a higher octane rating if you can. or think about using just a bit of octane booster. also using some FI cleaner or gas system cleaner couldn't hurt either.

does it also "shiver" while accelerating at a certain RPM? it could be a bad spark plug, connection or (although unlikely) wrong sequence.

Did you check the gapping on the spark plugs? That could cause the pinging.

I change my plugs every 100,000 miles (platinum)

30,000 for copper plugs.

I'd check that first.
