i like to use Regane by penzoil. It seems to do the trick. Supposedly it doesn't ruin the carbon buildup that helps the rings seal.

Don't use any of those fuel system/injector cleaners in a bottle. They don't do any good and are just a waste of money.

However, I have heard that the dealerships use something called K44 which is supposed to work well. I had them throw a bottle into my Legend but I didn't really notice any difference.

The best thing for your car is proper maintenace and a little bit of care from you to keep it running well.

Take a look at this LINK before adding any fuel additives in our car

http://www.ftc.gov/opa/1999/9909/shellcastrol.htm

It shows that claims of added power has never been proven and is mis leading advertisements.

however the fuel additives will keep down carbon buildup that occurs during normal use. Most additives has a chemical called thulene or something like that, I cant remember off hand but I'll correct it once I remember. It's 3am and I have an early flight out... Might be a while before I correct :-)

Nevertheless, it burns slower than normal fuel so the extra burn helps to burn out carbon deposits.
Also higher octane, slower the burn, lower octane faster the burn.
Higher octane, cooler the engine runs, lower octane, hoter it runs.

If you use high octane fuel, most places have their own fuel additives in their gas.

Some of you might remember a few months back that my Check Engine light kicked on due to a dirty exhaust manifold I was told.
The Dealer wanted $800 to take apart the manifold to clean.
I asked if my O2 sensors are bad and they said no, but the sensors kicked on due to very low air... meaning dirty.

They reset the light and I took the car home. I changed the plugs, put couple of fuel additives in and ran the car on the highway at pretty high RPM's ... I must have blew out the build up since the Check Engine light hasn't returned yet. (knock of wood).

I'll post if the check engine lights comes back.

Also Too much additive will cause damage since there are other additives in that bottle like mineral spirits and stuff.
I use fuel additives once in a while to keep the deposits down but it's only about once a year or so.

I put chevron techron into my 152K mile Legend. It seemed to idle a little smoother when it was warmed up and had a little more power. I figured $7 minus a $2 rebate, what the heck. If it blew up the car I'd have my excuse to go buy a new car. I plan on putting this in my wife's 105K mile Pathfinder. The venerable Road Rage had a post about using this.
