door speakers

one of my door speakers was blown, so I went to Best Buy and got a pair of speakers.
they are 2way speakers..
because of that extra tweeter i am hearing too much of high frequencies..
i am tempted to cut some wires in that speaker to disable the tweeter..

is that a legitimate concern? or am i hearing things..
btw.. they are kenwood KFC.. (kentucky fried chicken) hehe..
frequency response 35Hz-20,000Hz

You are likely hearing the lack of midrange.
In a 2way the frequency is like having a three layer cake without the middle layer. I would buy some 3ways and that should take the load off of the tweeters and balance out the system.
or..
Buy a midrange with crossovers and that would send the correct freqs to the proper speaker.
but..
If you want to remain stock. I would go 3way.

Please disregard message above. It is not correct.

I was thinking of something else.

You just may need to buy a better speaker.
Try Polk Audio (Circuit City). I used them before I went audio insane in the membrane.

Are you still using the mids located by the mirror?

jus save yourself the trouble and get some components.... all of those 2 way and 3 way speakers suck, they are a waste of money. If anyting jus start off with a basid infinity kappa setup and move on from there. If you're not really that concerned out the sound of your system you could go with Alpine Type S coaxials, those are alright.

i must admit i didn't know much about speakers in general when i bough them..
i was suspicious about the extra tweeter on a two-way, but the sales rep assured me that the speaker would be way better then what i had before..

i'm going to see if they can take them back..

i agree with mongoosedog here in regard to component speakers.

2way and 3way are for cars with 4 speaker setup..
2 front, and 2 back..
the sales reps at best buy need to know what they are talking about..

thanks for the replies..

You consider just dropping the treble a little bit? These speakers may be "brighter" than other makers, so you just have to fund something that sounds good to your ears.

yeah looks like the tweeters are killing you. as someone mentioned, get components sets b/c those come with crossovers. crossover controls how much wattage to send to which speaker. sell your 6.5 kenwoods on ebay or put it up for sale here in the classifieds on this forum.

one more thing, isn't it true that the kenwoods are better than your stocks or would you rather hahve your stocks again??

yeah, i tried the treble thing..
my wife doesn't notice the difference.. i do.. and she drives the car!!

its difficult to say how good or bad the speakers were because of tweeks and mids..
but some guy on some forum said that they were as good as alpines.. that's in his saturn..

anyway.. i've returned them..
i am looking at these.. but not sure if they'll fit..

for the speaker above, would i need a crossover? or does head unit divide up the frequencies?

depends on the head unit..... and one thing that you have to watch out for when you get compnents or jus a little better brand speaker is the depth of the speaker... I had to make spacers for mine.... in fact I have to make smaller ones cause the ones i made are too thick and I can't put the "grill" back on lol

For the love of MIKE. Don't buy those!
Those are low low low end type speakers and Pyle is a low low low type company.

Go here and do some reading up..

Can't you just lower the treble on the head unit itself ? I thought the factory cd player has knobs for volume, bass, treble and balance.

The reason they are @ 6khz is they are expected to be part of a mid-tweet setup.
They will not blow. You will not have any freq output above 6khz.
It is likely they have there own xover.

p.s. check out that site I gave you. You will learn alot.

well, got my speakers.. and that's all that there was in there.. there weren't even any screws there..
anyway.. after 3 trips to the stereo shop i have the right spacer..
now the challenge is getting the door cover closed.

still don't have it in..

will work it out later.. i am thinking of 4 small pieces of wood that link the 4 holes in the frame to the speaker..
any suggestions for the wood? MDF? or does it matter..

I just installed some Infinity Reference series speakers to replace the OEM front and rears last night. The front had foam rot so I figured it was time to replace them all. Took me an hour and a half. Also took the factory grills and washed the stains out. Sound is much better with my Kenwood head unit. Pictures forthcoming.

Listen, you should EASILY be able to find some OEM replacements that are not separates. Separates usually require an amp to reach their true potential, which might not be what you want. You just need to test some different brands. Some are bright, some are mellow - all depends on what you want. But I seriously doubt you need separates to have good sound, assuming you are just a casual music listener. You just picked some speakers that don't fit your tastes - not all speakers are the same.

BTW, I actually installed JL Audio separates in my TL and had to custom build some spacers since the JLs had such larger magnets than the originals. So consider that before you buy something you might not need. Some speakers might fit in without a spacer.

those are too thin and you'd have to buy like 3 and stack them on top of each other. use mdf speaker rings. either make them yourself of have a shop make it for you. ive seen them go for 20 bucks a pair. can't go wrong with mdf wood.

Were exactly did you get the figure $50? It costs $40 to make them with cheap materials and finish it with spray paint, and that is a low estimate, granted that figure is significatly less if you are buying 5 gal. drums of resin and whatnot, but for now that is not my situation. I'll do 65, with a fleece finish. Or 75 for suede. 80 for spraypaint (lots of sanding involved). These prices are only good until April first, so if you want them let me know.

Sub enclosures....I build those as per request. They can go just about anywhere.

I think he was low balling you - but under $100 for a pair of QUALITY kick panels is a really good price. Those are not easy to make for the layperson.

I just have one thing to say about this entire Thread. Go aftermarket (everything), or go home.

Well, I don't think that fifty would be that unreasonable once I am purchasing materials in bulk. Thats about what the promo price will be eventually. I am trying to do it for less than everybody else so that I can establish a good customer base.
