Dash button - what is it for?

I have a 98 3.2TL and on the dash there is a slot about the size of a key. It is located at the bottom of the guage area, just to the right of the 1 on the shift indicator, and to the right of the 0 on the speedometer. My key fits in it but only goes in about 1/4 of the way. Anyone one know what this thing is for? I can get a pic if needed.
