Regulator breakage prevention
Regulator breakage prevention
My 96 has 2 bad regulators. I have a replacement (used) on order for the passenger front, but have since found info here on getting them rebuilt at Regulator USA. I might send the back passenger unit to them. I wonder if there is some sort of preventative maintenance that could be performed as a preventative measure i.e. greasing the tracks or loosening the two bolts that hold the bracket to the regulator and moving the window up and down a few times and retightening them (like the write-up suggests that is posted in the forum for regulator installation). I’ve not had the car long and I knew the rear unit was out, but when the front went out it just popped and fell to about midway. I thought I was okay because I just pulled it back up. Well, several bumps later it was back down to midway again. I’d hate for one of the regulators to go out and a rain storm come up—or snow. I’ll probable always keep a couple of wire ties in the trunk and maybe some plastic as well.
Exactly! A guy should really learn how to pull the door panels off in case one goes out at an inopportune moment—say leaving the drive-thru window and the sky falls out. I think I’m going to look at the driver’s side units and see if they need grease or what not. Thanks for your reply!
