Oil changes - Acura filter?

I do my own oil changes and have done so for some time. My mechanic has always told me that it is very important to use only Acura oil filters when doing so. I respect this guy very much but was wondering if this is true or are there aftermarket filters that are as good or better?

If you're talking about the FRAM produced Honda OEM oil filters, then there are certainly better filters avaliable for the money.

For shorter drains, the Napa Proselect (low end Wix), Supertech (Champs), and Purolator Premium Plus are good choices.

For longer drains, PureOne, Napa Gold, and Amsoil are good choices.

Thanks. What about the premium filters?

K&N, Mobil 1, etc? I suppose that these are over the top?

Are you serious? Fram makes Honda filters? Is that accurate? can you point me to where that can be confirmed? Fram filters are about the worst there are.

K&N air filters are worthless but I don't know about their oil filters. I have used Purolator Pure One. They have tested to be among the best. I switched back to Honda OEM filters on my '04 RL thinking there is nothing better....but if it made by Fram...yeee gad!!!

I've used the Purolator before and that's what I ended up going with. I was interested in the K&N filter comment; tell me what you know about them and why you don't like them.

Why K&N air filter is not exactly what you want to use

I always semed to be drawn in to the "If it's more expenssive it has to be better" method of purchasing. After reading this http://home.usadatanet.net/~jbplock/ISO5011/SPICER.htm

I pretty much just now stay with OEM filters...

Cool

yes it is true. go to your local honda dealership and go to parts. right there on the shelf....Sky blue filters with HONDA emblem and look closely: made by Fram ! JUNK< CRAPO filters..................NO THANKS ! Another "cost cutting" measure ! Pass crap on to customers investments so they (honda) can profit....Not by me !

I've been using Mobil one filter and oil for the past 4 years ! The best I may add.....

New owner looking for advise.

Bought a 1997 RL standard and would like some help from you Acura gurus. The woman I bought it from was quite ditzy and didn't really take care of this car in a proper fashion. She also lost the keyless remote. Any ideas on a cheap replacement? I have only one key and the God key. .. I've already read through this board and found some excellent info. Is there a manual available for sale out there? Does any one know of wrecked 96, 97 RLs? She wrinkled the front bumper a little. Would like to get this car back up to pristine condition. Any advise, criticisms, witticisms will be welcomed.
Thanks
The big potato

Check e-Bay. I have seen new replacement remotes cheaper there than what the dealer would rip you off for. Good luck.
