New owner needs advise.

Bought a 1997 RL standard and would like some help from you Acura gurus. The woman I bought it from was quite ditzy and didn't really take care of this car in a proper fashion. She also lost the keyless remote. Any ideas on a cheap replacement? I have only one key and the God key. .. I've already read through this board and found some excellent info. Is there a manual available for sale out there? Does any one know of wrecked 96, 97 RLs? She wrinkled the front bumper a little. Would like to get this car back up to pristine condition. Any advise, criticisms, witticisms will be welcomed.
Thanks

Welcome to the forum

The remote can be found on eBay perhaps.. not sure of the price, probably around 50 dollars. It will need to be programmed, I can send you instructions for doing so if you get one. Its quite easy and takes under a minute.

There is a manual for sale on the RL, it covers the 1st generation TL and Legend, as they share many powertrain parts. Haynes and Chiltons would be top choices.

As for bumpers, you could try www.partsadventure.com I've found them to be quite useful. They specialize as a Honda/Acura parts warehouse.

Ken,
Thanks for info; sorry I don’t have the corporate knowledge to return the favor. Found remote on Ebay and am in the process of purchasing. If you can send the programming instructions to obxpotatohead@yahoo.com, I would be extremely appreciative.

I will investigate your bumper research recommendation.

By the way, I’m not really impressed with the sound system in my Acura. If anyone can recommend an aesthetically (no big pimp’in) rock’in alternative, please do. Trunk mounted CD player drives me insane.

KEN, thanks again.

JP

Yeah, the trunk mounted audio player is a nuisance.. perhaps look into getting the headunit out of a 2004 RL (?) not sure if thats feasible or not.

I don't think this is feasible because the headunit from an '04 RL integrates the audio system and a few of the climate control buttons and allows the user to further rely upon the navigation unit for additional climate controls. In otherwords, a new headunit would require a new navigation unit as well. Kinda costly for a '97 RL.

There is a non-Navi headunit out there

Its meant for Alaska and Hawaii.. its probably expensive.. and a longshot but it will work.
