Check Engine Light. EGR Valve
#2
Take to dealership and let them figure it out. It is their responsibility as the car is under warranty.
Also, try reading this for some more information or share this with the mechanic at your dealership. http://www.asashop.org/autoinc/nov97/gas.htm

Cheat the system
If you are convinced that this light is bogus, you can always make the light go out by yourself by holding down the odometer reset at the same time you hold down the select button (next to your speedometer), turn on the ignition, and hold for 10 seconds or so until the check engine light goes out.

When are people going to learn the difference between the Check Engine Light (MIL) and Maintenance Required Light?
Check Engine: Shaped like an engine with "CHECK" in it. OBDII system monitoring emissions systems. Reset it with OBDII equipment or by resetting ECU (disconnect battery)
Maitenance Required: Says "MAINT REQ'D" light that reminds you it's time to change the oil. Flashes for 10 seconds at 6000 miles since last reset. Comes on steady at 7500 miles. Reset by holding down select/reset and holding them while you turn on the ignition.

I took my 96 Acura RL to dealer today for the same reason. It is a common problem for this model. The intake manifold can get plugged and need to be clean. I've consulted server mechanic before I took my car to the dealer. They can't find any problem with it.
Dealer told me that this problem is under extended emmission warranty and won't cost me a dime. I should've taken my car earlier.

Go to an Autozone, which will often read the code for free. If it still shows that the EGR valve its bad, and you're sure that its working properly, reset the code and see if it comes back.
EGR valves seem to be an issue with quite a few Hondas, and I heard that some Acuras also had the problem.
The best way to keep your EGR valves in good condition is to regularly use a fuel system cleaner that removes carbon buildup/deposits.

EGR code is fixed
It's been a week since my last trip to the dealer. They replace the EGR valve and clean the instake manifold. Dealer claimed they add stainless stell sleeve in the pipe somewhere. Since the car is still under Acrua extended emission warranty. All these are free. The engine code has not come back yet.

Yes, the 1996 and 1997 RLs (and most Acuras for that matter of these two years) are covered under a 150,000 mile emissions warranty.
IF you have a problem with your catalytic converter, EGR valves, exhaust manifolds etc, it is taken care of for FREE up to 150,000 miles.
