Steering Angle Sensor after front bumper repainting - Code 134

Hey folks,

My car was hit in a parking lot and the passenger side front bumper just by the right front wheel was scratched. It didn't look like the other vehicle hit my tire.

After the collision, the car drove fine with now issues.

I just got the car back, and the first left turn after leaving the insurance approved repair shop, the VSA light turned on.

I returned to the shop and they said the next step is taking to an Acura dealer to read the codes and if related to the collision it will be repaired. However, since the car is 2011 (250,000 KMs), it's possible the issue just presented after and may be due to wear/tear. In the case of the latter I get to eat the diagnostic

I checked the code and it's showing a "134 Steering angle sensor malfunction". Steering seems to be tracking fine however.

Was thinking on resetting the VSA per what others have done, just waiting on the new bidirectional scanner to do it.

Any other ideas from folks?

Sounds like you've already purchased the scanner so resetting the steering angle sensor is a good first step. I've done this reset with my Foxwell N710 scanner and it was quick and easy. Did the shop do any suspension work or an alignment?

Nope, no work by the shop for any alignment work. They claimed they didn't remove the front wheels to do the repair.

Your insurance should make you whole again . The repair shop should have the alignment checked at the least with insurance covering the costs .

How do I know …been in the business for years. A claim is for all damage including alignment check .
