Problem already??

I have about 150 miles on my new 08 RDX and for some reason everytime I use the sport (manual) shifting, as soon as I shift from 1st to 2nd, it then shifts to 3rd by itself at only about 4k rpm.....wtf??

Are you sure it isn't simple "shifting" (the engine RPM dropping) via engaging the lockup clutch to attain improved FE..??

I would imagine that if you manually shift into second and then for a few seconds maintain a set speed and relatively constant throttle, gas pedal, position the system will automatically engage the lockup clutch.

I wouldn't touch sport mode till the engine has broken in.

uh, why not? I exclusively use S mode and shift the car on my own, and I have done so since I bought it.

usually manufacturers tell you not to rev high while the engine is being broken in. I guess you can shift early in S mode but your foot will just ask for more :P

I'll test out the S mode and see if it shifts from 2nd to 3rd, are you guys sure your not in regular D mode and just using the paddle shifters?

No, I'm talking full throttle and it happens EVERY time. Bang off a nice 1-2 shift, then it shifts 2-3 waaaaay before redline, like 4k rpm. Something is wrong, it wont hold 2nd gear in sport mode.

Sport mode has nothing to do with breaking in the engine. During break-in you simply want to avoid long periods of crusing at the same RPM. A run to redline a few times is actually beneficial to the cars performance and longevity after the break-in period.

Turbo pressure bypass not working so unshift is to avoid/allevita possible over-boost...??

something is wrong. it should hold the gear. take it to the dealer.

nothing wrong with using sport mode during break-in, but at the same time, you shouldn't be full throttle with only 150 miles on the vehicle.

If you are manually shifting in sport mode it won't upshift for you, it may downshift for you but it won't upshift for you. It does sound like something is wrong.

its gotta protect the engine somehow while in S....i dont think you have absolute free reign over it. just as it wont let you downshift if your rpm's are too high

If you put it into S and never touch the paddles, it will run as full-automatic.

It's only once you press a paddle that it becomes semi-auto.

As for holding at redline. YES, this car's engine can and will bounce off the rev limiter if you don't tell it to shift. Yes, I've tried it. Yes, it made me extremely happy when it happened.

It's at the dealer right now. The tech took it for a drive and said it was working fine. Then I took him out and showed him. Dumbasses.

Nope, the "S" mode helps to hold each gear longer in full auto mode, but once you tap the gear shift paddle, to down or up shift, it now becomes "manual" and will respond to only the paddles, unless the engine computer detects there is potential danger to the engine, due to over-revving.
