Lighting Problem with Upper LCD

Folks,
Can you check something for me? I noticed on my ride home tonight that a couple of the letters in my upper display (the one with the temp, radio & clock readouts) are noticeably dimmer/yellower than the rest of the chars. It seems to be the 6th and 7th chars from the left, not counting the driver temp display. I tested it further by turning off the radio and climate control system in a dark area so I could see just the 'glow' of the display backlighting, and it does indeed look like I have a darker stripe over those two chars.

So I'm trying to decide if I've got a bulb or LED out, or if it's by design. Can a few of you check yours out and let me know what you find? You do have to look at it a bit to see it - it wouldn't be noticeable with just a quick glance. Your help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks,
Mike

I thought I saw a dimmer section of the display, but I was wearing polarized sunglasses so I thought that was it. I'll check it out tomorrow.

Thanks Chip!

I don't mind having the display replaced if it's bad, but if it's by design, there's no sense in having my dealer open it up and risk adding new rattles...

Thanks
Mike

I took the dog out and decided to check it tonight in a dark garage. I didn't see any differences in the brightness of the characters on my display. I now believe it was the polorized sunglasses that gave the impression. Sorry. Maybe someone else will report a problem too.

When I did the old "turn the polarized sunglasses through 360 degree rotation" test I noticed that the clock digits behaved differently than the rest of the display - so they do appear to have more than one different display behind the protective cover...

That's ok - it was worth a shot. I'll see if anyone else responds before I set up an appointment....I'm rapidly approaching my B1 service call anyway. Although I must admit I'm impressed - 12K miles, only 1 oil change so far and still at 30%!

I didn't notice any problems with my display today, even when I was wearing polarized oakleys

Wearing my polarized Ray-ban's today. Put a lot of miles on the RDX, using the upper diplay a lot. Looked great all day.

Hey folks. I'm almost at 12K miles, and have 5% before my next oil change/maint cycle. Given the replies I've gotten, I'm planning to have the dealer look at my upper display. Just for kicks (and to avoid the "I don't see it") argument, I tried to see if I could capture it. It actually is more visable than I thought. Take a look:

The slightly dimmer letters and the dark area can be seen quite well. It's not horrible, but it does continually catch the corner of my eye while driving at night. I'm hoping the display is backlit with LEDs and not some light pipe that is dirty deeper into the car. Would anyone with the service manuals want to take a look for me?

I'll let you know what my dealer has to say...
Thanks,
Mike

Yeah that looks like heat damage or pressure damage, definitly a problem. They probably use OLED technology or LED backlighting.

Well the dealer agrees that it's not right and they've ordered a new display module. Getting in installed on Tues...
