Hard/violent shift into reverse

Hello all again,

ive had this issue for a while but it’s starting to bother me more than before.

my 2010 RDX SH-AWD with roughly 195xxxkm has something going on with it. Whenever I shift into reverse for the first time in the day, it’s very violent and the whole car jerks. The more I let the car warm up, the less violent the car shakes. drive also does this as well but not nearly as violent either.
(I do park on a Slight upward incline driveway)

this does NOT happen at any point throughout the rest of the day.

I had the trans fluid changed at the Honda dealer a few months back and checked the level yesterday and everything looks good. The trans still shifts smooth as butter through the rest of the gears and there’s no abnormal noises as far as I know.

I also notice the jerk/shakes magnitude varies relative to the amount of pressure I Have on the breaks when I go to change gears.

All of my motor mounts also look good. Sounds/feels like something could be loose up front. Any ideas?

Might also be worth mentioning, this happens regardless of the incline I’m on if any. Only first time I use it during the day but never again throughout the day. Or unless very very cold (-20°c or below).

I also always use the e brake when parking on any incline, letting the car rest in neutral before putting it into park.

Both front cv shafts have also been replaced recently. Unless one of those was defective it sounds like something is hitting something or isn’t secured properly. Thanks for any advice!

It's normal for the transmission shifts to be a little stiffer before the fluid warms up, but your scenario does sound somewhat extreme. I would recommend having someone look at the engine while someone else does this first shift to see if there is any excessive movement under the hood. You said the mounts were good, but I would double check because bad/worn mounts are usually to blame for turning small engine/transmission vibrations into big ones.

I double check the mounts today, they’re all good. Mornings I let the car warm up for 5ish minutes, and it’s not nearly as severe as if I go into reverse as soon as I turn the car on., extreme colds (-15- -42°c) I’ve warmed it up for 10 minutes before going.

weather has been warmer lately, in anything above 13°c(give or take), I can throw it into reverse right as I turn the car in and it won’t clunk. Gear shifts while driving aren’t felt AT ALL when it’s warmer than 12-15°c.
I think I may just live with this and warm up the car more in even the slightest of cold temperatures.

The only other thing I can think of are the shift solenoids, but I am not sure which one controls the reverse gear. As they wear your shifts can get rougher.
