Transmission hard shift into reverse

I just bought the car. 2005 acura tl automatic

When I start the car and shift into reverse its very sudden and jerks the entire car, doesnt feel like a smooth transition at all. Kind of like when you shift into drive and have the gas pedal down.

The idle is perfect. It does not have to do with the car being on an incline I feel liek its a sensor or something but the d light doesn't not flash and no cel at all. It also does not have to do with the engine/trans mounts either....

I have parked the car now since it needs control arm bushing anyways. Really feel shitty since ive gone through dozens of hondas and this is the first honda ive bought that is an auto and am reading tons of transmission problems now.

Anyone ever fix an issue like this. I searched all over the forums and didnt find an answer

I'm going to argue you have some shot motor mounts.

Are you parked on an incline when going into reverse? That harshness may be load on the parking pawl as it releases. If on an incline, shift to neutral, set the parking brake and then shift to park.

For the record my car had the same issue and i replaced 2 mounts and changed the fluid and switches on the transmission and its a much smoother engagement now going into reverse although you still feel it which i just chalked up as normal.

just did a transmission fluid change, 3/4 speed pressure switches and the filter with no luck.

seems like on a rare occasion it doesn't happen at all.

Hopefully im wrong.

Happened to me Thursday, on Saturday my transmission took 3-5 seconds to shift from park to drive then every gear started slipping. Mines done, I would get it checked asap.

nope my problem is different. I can tell just by the noise. and that transmission seems to have a nasty whine also. My trans is very smooth and engages fine but just a clunk when it engages reverse.

I guess we will see what happens.

mine does teh same dam thing, it just feels really rough when going into reverse and sometimes from reverse into drive, but almost i say 95% of the time its rought going into reverse no matter if its from park or drive, and no im not on a incline my car shifts smooth when driving from 1-2-3-4-5, i thought that 1-2 dont have pressure switches so even if you were to switch the pressure switches it wouldnt do much of anything in regards to 1-2 or reverse?.....let me know if u figure it out PM me please...im worried a lil bout my transmission and ill deff check for the motor mounts but my type s only has 75k on it but still it can still go to shit soo ill check the mounts

From now on I just start my car in neutral and then shift into reverse, no more clunk

Having same hard shift only when 1st put in gear not while driving- sent trans off for rebuild, put rebuilt trans back in and no difference, thought it could be engine or trans mounts so replaced them all today and still have same exact problem- any ideas??

I have the same issue. I have a 2008 Acura TL It shifts really hard when I go into reverse, and also it feels as if I were pushing on the brakes when the car is decelarating at times. When it is decelarating and it is close to 40 mph and feel the same thing at around 20 MPH. I replaced the Motor Mounts and Transmission Mounts as well. Would it just be needing transmission service?

Thank you!

Mario

That whine is your torque converter starving for fluid. At this point, prepare for a rebuilt or replacement.

Did you ever figured it out? Mine is doing the same thing. It went away after I did transmission fluid change but came back around 1000 miles later.
