Angry Grinding breaks...only 12,000 miles?

Hi. The past month I have been hearing a rattling sound whenever I would use the breaks. Well, it has now turned into a horrible grinding sound. I am honestly afraid to drive the thing. Anyway, I am taking it to the dealer on Monday to have it checked out, but isn't it a bit strange that the breaks would be doing this at only 12,000 miles? I don't ride the breaks. I can even hear the rattling now when I'm not even using the breaks!

Shit happens. Hopefully your dealer will fix it under warranty. When I first got my RDX with under 300 miles on it, I had a grinding noise in my brakes. Took it in and the dealer found a loose screw lodged in the brakes. No idea where it came from. It didn't match any screw that would have been in the vehicle.

I had the same grinding at around 17500. Took it to the dealer they said that I had 80% wear left. Whatever they did, which they claimed was nothing, silenced the grinding for about 2 weeks. Now its back and sitting at the dealer for another inspection Monday. I've never had a car make this loud metal on metal noise and not need the brakes replaced. Let us know what they tell you.

Dealer fixed my brakes this time. Resurfaced front rotors and put on new pads. He said the pads were wearing unevenly for some reason and that they were actually cracked. Free under warranty! Hope you are as fortunate.

i actually have a similar problem (along with brake vibration when going downhill). but mine seems to go away after a couple of kms of driving and braking. more prominent when i turn my wheel to the right. is my experience similar to yours? btw, i have about 22,000 kms on mine after 1 year and a month.

anyway, mine is going into the shop on thursday. hopefully it'll be covered under warranty.

Hi. The dealer ended up fixing the problem for free under warranty. I was told that one of the calliber's went which caused the front breaks to go. Anyway, whatever happened, I am just glad I didn't have to pay for it! They said it was a factory defect. Good luck all.

hmm...brought my car in to get the brakes checked...they couldn't reproduce the problem as by the time i brought it to them, the sound went away. they machined the front rotors anyway though as they were a bit off. got it back, parked for an hour and a half, same grinding noise. going back in on tuesday. such a hassle.

this thread is very interesting...I have 12K on my 08 RDX and have noticed the same grinding noise, especially breaking down a mountain road. Noticed it too after I had washed it, thought the brakes might have gotten wet. I had it in to change oil, asked to have the brakes looked at, they couldn't find anything. After reading this thread, I'm calling tomorrow to get it back in while under warranty. BTW: my first experience with $108 oil change and tire rotation.... Yikes! Second visit was $275 for all that and replacing the differential (?) fluids because of the turbo. Anyone esle experience that and how often will I have to have that golden fluid changed? Anyone know?

Same problem, 13K miles

Thats odd, I have the same problem. I took it to the dealer and they said they dint do anything, but the sound isn't as bad now. Its still there, but only if I'm actually trying to listen for it.

mine's still there. i hear it more when i'm taking a curve in the road. both times i had an appointment to come in and take the tech for a road test, but both mornings, i was not able to reproduce it. so frustrating. then of course, the day after it happened again...and has been happening on and off the last few days. gonna try to just drop by when it happens again next.

My RDX is OK so far, but it only has 900 miles! But, I had a similar brake issue with my 2008 Acura CL at about 12K miles and the dealer replaced with brand new rotors and pads at all four corners! No questions asked. I was a happy camper. I hope my RDX holds up but if not, I expect the same. I don't want resurfaced, etc. Give me new if it's defective.
