Forget to Lock doors after getting off the vehicle?

Will the car compensate this scenario? Will it lock by itself after it detects that the key was removed from the ignition? Any work around? I have checked and researched.....could not found any settings or featureson this. Design "glitch"?

It locks itself if you unlock it then don't open the door. This is to give you peace of mind when you put your keys in your pocket after you lock the doors and are walking away. I think it is about 30 seconds (maybe even adjustable).

I would not want it to lock any and every time I take the key out of the ignition. I put crap I need the next day in the car all the time (daycare check, drycleaning, etc.), and it would be a pain (and silly) if it locked itself while sitting in the garage.

....this is the scenario, we drove the car to the mall and went shopping and we forgot to lock the doors on either manually or thru the remote key....then after we went back for almost 4 hours....to our surprise, the doors "are still unlock".

that's the way it works. so the car doesn't automatically lock you out if you left the keys in the car.

the bottom line of this question is....which is easy to forget....to "lock the doors" or "left the keys inside the car"

But the car has no way of knowing if you want the doors locked or not. If you press unlock, then don't open the doors, the car knows it was an accident. But if you never tell it to lock, how is it supposed to know you didn't want to leave it unlocked?

Even if it was a setting, I would be turning it off all the time. For example, every time you wash the car. Loading junk for a trip. Etc.

^ agreed.

But I guess you can have a 2 way remote system where it can figure out weather the remote is in the car or not.

A smart key system would have been nice on the RDX. Even the basic toyota's are comming with it.

i think Acura failed on this feature....despite the fact of being the brand Acura is associated to "technology"....if they were able to have settings for "RELOCK"....i found it difficult to reconcile in my mind why they "overlooked" the some sort of very "important features" namely:

1---will have a automated time delay door locks<it can sense that the key was already remove from the ignition and it was inactive for a long time>
2-----it should have integrated the "moonroof" on car's LOCK feature<it can detect that the moonroof was remained open>

Acura simply failed on the 2007 RDX, with the memory keys, you can set it to relock the car after 15 -90 seconds of inactivity.
