Can't customize nor default lock or lighting settings
As the title states, I can't customize nor default all settings. I can't change any of my door lock settings or lighting settings. When I go to change the settings I just get an error message in the information display. Same thing if I try to default them all.
I noticed this was a problem after I killed the battery with a bad alternator and replaced both. I realized mostly that my door lock settings changed from what I had them on. I figured oh well lack of power must have put them to default settings or something. I will just have to reset them. Then encountered the error message trying to customize it back to what I had it set on. Then after trying several times I tried to just default them all and start over and encountered 'default all failed'.
I tried unhooking the battery a few times and trying again but it's just not working. Error!
Anyone else ever ran into this?
I am currently trying to get a new shifter position sensor / neutral safety switch because I'm having intermittent issues with that. My theory is this sensor is going out and I think I can't set any of these settings because the car isn't always 100% sure it's in park when I am trying to set the settings? But at the same time I am not exactly sure about that because when I shift out of park and try it, I can't even get to the menu to set the settings.
If you have ran into this and know what the issue is, please let me know.
Meanwhile, if I get this sensor in and get it changed out I will update to document rather or not I am able to change the settings after I replace it.

Well, replacing the shifter position sensor / neutral safety switch seems to have fixed my other issues... occasional blinking D light set off after moving the shifter, occasional no-start, and occasional key being trapped in ignition. I didn't really realize initially that the key trap could have been related because the no-start wasn't happening at the time and the blinking D light was very rare. So I had unhooked the wire to the part in the column that senses the key, traps the key, does the door chime, and lights the blue ring around the key switch. I assumed either that or the shift sensor wasn't allowing me to set the settings and I just didn't notice it until I had to replace the alternator and maybe things reset then. That is when I noticed the settings changed and I could not change them. I hooked that back up in the column and also swapped out the shifter sensor and I am still in the same place.
MID says ERROR when I try to set the settings.
I pulled some of the fuses, primarily some that I did not know what they were for until I got to one that I am going to destroy getting it out. So I stopped there and started googling fuse abbrivations and that particular one HAC which is the blower motor according to google and luckily it still works. Im going to have to get a serious tool for fuse removal of some sort. Im guessing that HAC fuse I am going to have to leave until I get a chance to disconnect the battery and dig it out in pieces.
I keep trying to apply some sort of logic to this issue with the MID ERROR. I get that a fuse could be blown. I am just at a loss for what one it might be. Like if my door locks didn't work at all that would be logical. Door lock fuse blown.
The only other unresolved issue I have is my interior lights totally quit working. I used to have to shut them off manually because they would not turn off, even though all of the door switches work perfectly fine. They haven't worked at all for a while. Only the puddle lights in the front doors and the light in the cargo hatch area work.
I am starting to think there is a control board of some sort up in the dome that runs the lighting there where the moon roof controls are and that thing is damaged. Maybe the MID knows that controller board is shot and cannot control lighting delay and stuff and that is the root cause. I don't know. Acura parts diagrams suck. I can't even find the part.

Oh and has anyone done a write-up on replacing the shifter position sensor/neutral safety switch on the RDX?
If not I will write one up because it sucks and sucks more because I didn't have any good info to go by on the job. Might help someone out later on or help them decide rather or not they want to tackle it themselves.

OK I finally fixed it, pretty much with combination of frustration and dumb luck.
I went out and just replaced the backup fuse. One time I had a fuse not look blown that was no good. So why not. Still didn't work after several tries. I tested all the door locks to see if anything was wonky and nothing. Everything worked fine manually, by the door buttons and also by the key fob. After a lot of screwing around with using both keys I have, I pulled the switchblade keyfob out of the ignition, almost screamed and pressed the lock and unlock button at the same time and just held them down in frustration.
A little red light lit up between the buttons after a bit. Then it hit me that I had taken the keys from my 3 year old son a while back and remembered he was doing the same thing and that little light was on. So I tried one more time and all my settings are there. I didn't have to set them and I can now change them just fine.
Nowhere I have found so far mentions anything. But apparently you can put in the settings and link your key fobs. Then whoever unlocks the car, those settings are loaded... but we only have one, so when it unlinked it was unable to load or customize any of these settings. I haven't found any mention of this in any of the manuals yet. But that was my problem and fix.
I have also heard there is some combination of something you can do where when you unlock it will also roll down the windows and open the moonroof. I remember trying it years ago and never did get it to work.

I agree the windows opening with the key in the door lock doesn't work on the 1st generation RDX. I have tried every YouTube video already. Also just use a good needle nose pliers to get the fuse out and buy a $10 fuse tester light if you don't even want to take them out. Glad, your issue was resolved!
