A/C Quit.

Angry A/C Quit.

I just went on a road trip and on the way to the destination after an hour of driving we slowed down to take a break so I turned the A/C off and opened the window. Once we got moving again and on the highway I closed the windows and turned the A/C on and the compressor engaged but it wasn't blowing any cold air . Could this relay be the problem or maybe is it something like the condenser? Like I said the compressor engages since I can A) hear it. And B) feel the car gets sluggish due to the parasitic drag from the compressor. So I think the compressor can be ruled out as an issue and I can imagine the bill to take it to Acura to fix. Any help super appreciated. I read the thread on the relay and compressor issue but as I said the compressor engages without any fuss so I'm leaning to the relay . But for all I know the god of all bugs nailed the condenser on the highway and punctured it.

If the compressor is kicking on but still no cold air I would think the next step is to check the pressure in the system to see if you're low. If so, and it's a sudden change...well maybe not He-Bug but something might have caused a leak?

I there a special tool needed to check the pressure? I am limited on tooling and money hence why I want to see what people think on here before I get robbed by the dealer.

I think your everyday A/C recharging kit has a gauge included to measure pressure. You can get gauges separately, but they're more expensive. But, also way easier to read as the kits usually come with one that's like 1" across.

A good idea but it is still a little pricey. Especially once shipping gets added in. Maybe try relay first then go from there?

yes try the relay, my local "Honda" Not acura, price matched the amazon price to the new part number. cost me 16$ and my A/C Started working again.

Tried the new relay. No difference. Still just blowing warm air.

Actually maybe it did work. It feels colder but its hard to say since its only 14 degrees Celsius outside so it could just be pushing the outside air in. What temp is the A/C supposed to blow at when its on the low setting?

The fan in front of the condenser runs I can hear it. the compressor is engaged cause the car feels more sluggish and again I can hear it so if this didn't work then its either a leak, low refrigerant (even though this problem happened instantly) or maybe the compressor is bad.

Hi OP, this actually happened to me and I have finally gotten around to figuring out the problem (scheduled to be fixed saturday).

If your AC works up until it hits around 85F+ outside, its likely the AC field coil. Acura has a service bulletin for the issue along with the AC clutch if your car is under 100k and or 7 years. I think you also have to be the original owner. There are tutorials on the forum to DIY. Its kinda tricky and will likely take a few hours.

It was the field coil. So with that being the culprit the Acura dealer here replaced it, the compressor and refilled the refrigerant under warranty. Also they topped up my coolant cause I was a liter low. called this morning, got me in within half hour and the car was ready to roll within two hours. I was impressed.

Is there a different TSB (bulletin) for the field coil, different from the TSB for the AC clutch? if so, do you have the number? the letter I received from Acura seemed to only refer to problems w/ the clutch, although obviously if the field coil is bad, the clutch will not engage.

Not bringing this back from the dead just because. The reason is I have noticed since the dealer fixed the problem that I have gotten a mileage bump. Any thoughts on how that may have happened?

Depending on how worn your old compressor was the new one may be running more efficiently and not causing as much drag on your engine. Just like your have a cheaper cooling bill when you replace your home a/c. Can't think of any other explanation myself...unless you've unknowingly changed your driving habits as well.
