Is a bolt missing from my Rear End?
The right side of my rear end appears to have a bolt missing. When I asked the dealer what's that all about, I was told that it's not a problem and they are all like that?
DO YOU HAVE A BOLTS MISSING FROM YOUR REAR END AND WHAT'S IT FOR?

I believe he is referring to the rear differential mounting bolts.
The diff has holes drilled for four mounting bolts; two front and two rear. The two front are used but only the left rear is used. The right rear mount is not used and this is verified in the Service manual; showing three mounting bolts.

I did look under all of the loaner and used RDX's at my dealer before calling the corporate number and found none of them dating back to '07 had the bolt in the right side mounting hole. Just because they are all like that doesn't mean it's correct though.
The odd bit is the mount on the SH-awd casting is tapped and everything. It might be used during installation or something. I wouldn't suggest a person install a bolt in that mount.

I want to thank Grace141 for a detailed answer. And sorry that the link didn't make it thru the Acurazine post dialog box. I don't know why the link got truncated by this web site.
Here was the full link

I thought I'd chime in because I too was curious about this after noticing the missing bolt on our '09. No one at my dealer could answer my question about the missing bolt so they gave me the corporate telephone number. The lady at the corporate office opened an engineering case for the RDX team (the product quality people at the Ohio plant according to the lady) and a week later I received a call back saying they had confirmed there is to be only one bolt supporting the rear of the SH-awd housing at the cross member.
