Who is in for a Downpipe?

First, this is just a quick count of people who would be interested if I can get them made.

Mods: Just a feeler, lmk if there is any issue with this. Anything other than a feeler will be addressed by a sponsor I already have.

Basically, I have a Honda/Acura race engine builder who will do thtis for me. they are interested to see who else would consider buying them to recoup some of their costs. Looking to get 15 or more to get this moving asap.

Count me as number 1

No real clue about price, but lets assume $600 to start.

Yep, we've been only waiting for about 18mths
Give it a few more days for interested peeps to chime in, but I seriously doubt that we can muster up even 8. I've been waiting since Aug'08 for one of these ever since Pang_Co made his and got great results. There have been a few to start a list for interested parties but nothing has ever come of it....so I/we wait.
I'm a performance oriented guy and know the potential of the downpipe (my other car is a 600+whp evo) in that you will gain more of an increase in power from adding just that one mod than a combo of others. These more to it but I'm not in the mood anyhoo
So how would your builder tackle the project? Would you leave your vehicle with him so that he can use your factory dp for a jig and then for fitment/clearance issues?
Also not all have an aftermarket exhaust sys and would want the dp the work with the factory sys - which is a pretty good sys when you remove the cats!
I had my secondary cat removed and still use the factory sys so I just need to get rid of the primary cat which is in the dp. I figure the the primary cat ellimination is good for about a 20whp increase at least which also has to do with the fact that the a/f ratio leans out a bit upon doing so.
Also dont forget about the oxygen sensors (2) mod on the dp in order to prevent check lights!

Looking forward to the outcome!!

I work less than half a mile from a big Honda/Acura race shop. I have an extra car I can leave, and the owner is friends with the Acura dealership another mile down the road. He is gonna try and get an extra downpipe to use, but if not, I will leave mine for a couple days when I am getting my Hondata done. Once one is done, others are easy.

I'm trying to get a few people lined up for him so I don't have to eat all the R&D cost. If I can show them there is interest in 5-10. It's a no brainer. Ii dont want o to have him make them and me sell them. I'm too busy for that. He alread owns all the infrastructure to sell these. Just easier if im a guine pig.

As an owner though he needs to see some ROI.

I'm not tnew tot this either. I'm on my 3rd turbo'ed Audi. No 600hp, but 330tq from my 4-banger.

Before/after dyno runs would be useful, especially for a $600+ investment. Owning a performance shop myself, I'm familiar with the ROI concept. I would assume a prototype's been made and tested, so the data should be readily available.

Ok, thats good to hear!
I'm not familiar with the term"ROI".....oh return on investment maybe?!

Here's a good thread to go to with pics and dyno info;

36whp and 23lb/ft torque increase

I have a company that will do the downpipe for me. The build Honda race motors so they know what they are doing.

Schedusle is tight right now due to a big Race coming up next month. Looks like the car will go in the end of July.

I will probably get two made there at the time, and use the extra one to shop around machine shops to get made. I have a friend who owns a pipe fab shop so this should be an easy one for him.

Looks like August I should have some extras around. Pm me if you are interested in getting on board.

I thought the Hondata doesn't work with a DP? Custom flash?

The DP will work with any exhaust and reflash but no intake .

Just to expound; It will work with:

1. DP + any aftermarket exhaust + reflash
2. DP + any aftermarket exhaust
3. DP + reflash
4. DP + any aftermarket intake
5. Dp + stock exhaust (provided flanges are made to fit the stock sys)

Now where it get close to unsafe is,

Dp + any aftermarket exhaust + reflash + any aftermarket intake

It is at this point that the A/F ratios can get uncomfortably lean, and remidied by some additional fuel tuning.

Well DP and CP-E intake will not work with the reflash not sure on the K& N intake . The reason for that is Cp-e altered the diameter of the MAF housing which is making it run lean just by running the intake by itself with no other mods this is how there intake is able produce more horsepower by itself

When I dyno my Rdx with reflash , exhaust and Cp-e my Rdx was running lean at around 13.5 .

I will be dropping my car off for him to make two or three DP's. After that I will try and shop them around to fab shops to get more made.

Or I can sell to someone else and they can try and get more produced

So the ones that you are gonna have made, will they mate to the stock exhaust system and also have the O2 fix?

Similar to the one at the bottom of this pic?!

Well... Pang ( who was the first to do this years ago ), showed that by just adding this mod, no retune was needed. Power increase was excellent and AFRs were safe!
He did approach Hondata asking them if they would do a "retune" to optimize this and some other combinations of mods but they would'nt do it!

Count me in for one too...just looking at the stock piece makes me sick. What kind of R&D produced that thing?!

Acura Engineer: "This engine makes too much power...we need to get gas mileage up and get power under 250."

Acura intern: "What if we take this metal pipe, pinch it off like this *bends pipe in half over his knee* and then put it on right behind the turbo!"

Acura Engineer: "Brilliant!!"
